So today my class toured a toy museum, and I swear, all our concentration was broken entirely. Now I'm at work and deeply bored, so I'm stealing that meme everyone was posting yesterday.

Also, last night I watched the Sanctuary season four premiere, and is it me or did they just reveal that, apparently, Druitt was not behind the Ripper killings, after basically taking that for granted for three seasons? I have been really selective about which Sanctuary episodes I've watched, so I'm not sure if I've actually just missed something.

I have this weird tendency to watch Sanctuary episodes right after something applicable comes up in my comics history class; this time we were talking about the legend of Spring-Heeled Jack (and the various media that came out of it) as a potential precursor to Batman.

8 - Apathy. Oh man; very little bothers me than people who just don't care, who don't seem to be invested in anything.

38 - You know, I'm not really in a settling down sort of time in my life, so I figure that this is always subject to change. However ... I like to travel, but I've lived in New England, in this region of the US's East Coast, for my entire life, and I love it here. In fact, I've recently been pondering moving back to my hometown or the surrounding area, even though I only left (to live barely more than 100 miles away at any given time) about four years ago. I love the climate here, local politics suit me very well, many of the people I care about are sticking to this region, and my hometown specifically is a nice balance of urban and small town environments. Plus, there's a developing indie comics community in the area. (I used to think I'd have to move to New York, which I'd have hated.)

I believe they were saying that Druitt is still responsible for the Ripper killings in 1888, but these later ones in 1898 were a Spring-Heeled Jack.

Hmm, that's a little confusing. I wonder if they'll elaborate at all. (Also, I need to find a timeline for the lives & relationships of the Five, it's hard to keep the progression straight.)

Whoops, I failed to consider the way this meme would work with two journaling platforms ... I guess I'd better start crossing questions off. (Feel free to ask another if you want.) Here's what I put for #7:

Is it cheating to say a whole comic series instead of one book? Because the only standout favorite I have (seriously, otherwise I would have to give lists of like, ten or fifteen different titles, and I usually make different lists for comics and prose, it's ridiculous) ... is Finder, by Carla Speed McNeil. It's a tough series to pin down, because it's sort of fantasy and sort of sci-fi, but different books are about different characters and all over various parts of the timeline. It's just ... the worldbuiling is FANTASTIC, her visual storytelling style is effective and engaging, her characters are complicated, varied, and relateable, she writes extensive footnotes that give me even more material to immerse myself in, and she does some really fantastic meta (several of her stories are about stories, loving stories, telling stories ...) Ugh, I can never do it justice, and it's often a hard sell (probably as a result). There is stuff about it here. And an excerpt from one of the books here.
