I am still not supposed to be here, but um. BAND. ♥ Absurd brightly-colored post-apocalyptic ray-gun-toting pirate-radio-playing comic book aesthetic, YES PLEASE. I love how incredibly thrilled my f/rlist is, too ... it is so great to see you all so excited! There will be fic, right? Lots of it?

I desperately want to draw fanart for this new 'verse - though I am really, really not allowed to do that yet. It's going to be a serious challenge for me, with my all-but-allergy to color, but that's one of my favorite things about this fandom; it really inspires me to push myself harder and in new directions. I am going to be twice as motivated to get this application in!

Man, I love how Gerard's different worlds are bleeding together in that video. (When I finally managed to watch it on Friday - after stalling bus wireless and dying laptop batteries, a side trip to my hometown comic shop, and more stalling wireless at my parents' house - I was like, oh HELLO Grant Morrison. I am not hallucinating, right?) I'm dying to know more about the title - is the album somehow tied in with the previously-announced comic series? Did Gerard just lift the title from his other (collaborative) project? Just how much story/concept are we getting here?

Can't fucking wait for some US tour dates, naturally, though it's probably just as well for me that they're doing Europe first. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they portray all this onstage, though. And it should be interesting to see how the fans turn out for it. (I remember going to see Panic a couple years ago - half the crowd was in paisley, and the other half had ruffles and Fever-era makeup. I was rather entertained.)

Okay, I really have to go do some more inking now. (I've run out of Merlin podfic, woe. Someone please remind me that I probably don't want to go back to watching that show! DNW evil Morgana. :/)

Oh dear, I'm sorry! I really was kind of giddy last night. I guess I haven't posted about bandom in ages (things have been so quiet), and I've forgotten that my rlist is a bit broader than it used to be. The band in question My Chemical Romance; they released a "trailer" for their new, post-apocalyptic-themed album on Friday (which included a significant cameo from Grant Morrison).

Oh, righto. *phew* :D I kind of hurt my brain on that one. So I guess this band is like The Decemberists in the sense that they have story-albums so they can have a "universe" that people can fic on... or something. I don't know these things!

Hee, sort of? They've never released an album without claiming it had a "concept," although (in my opinion), the first two don't really hold up that way. A lot of their music videos have a storytelling element to them, though; the "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" video is like a trailer for a nonexistant movie about boarding school outcasts, the "Ghost of You" video is set during WWII, and their last album, The Black Parade, was loosely supposed to be about one dying man's vision of the afterlife (which you get a look at in Welcome to the Black Parade). So while people just write regular RPF fic about the band, and the usual selection of random AUs, you get a lot of AUs that are specifically based on those video/album concepts (I'm Not Okay-inspired high school AUs are particularly popular - it's pretty much a fandom subgenre). They also generally like dressing up in costumes (a photoshoot including the lead singer dressed as a priest inspired one of the most popular fic in the fandom, bexless's Unholyverse trilogy).

They've just announced that their newest album is supposed to be a pirate radio broadcast from a post-apocalyptic future, and have made a trailer for it (not a real music video, since it doesn't include the whole song. They've also been teasing us with RP-style tweets from various "characters" in this future, so we definitely have another "universe" to play with. I'm really excited for this one, as you can see! /o\

Ahaha, well, to be fair - apparently they did record a no-frills straight-up Stooges-inspired rock album? But then they hated it, and had to start over!

I mostly feel vindicated, because I could not believe that Gerard Way of all people would really want to lay off the theatricality and grandiose storytelling (although I kind of wish he'd figured that out before taking the time to record two entire albums).

I'm also never really sure if Gerard knows what the hell he's saying, to be honest. ♥

Aw, well, that's the only article I've seen mention that little gem, so far. Meanwhile, some of the other press is confused, and seems to think it's all one album! (Why yes ... I have been off working on my grad school application, and staying mostly off LJ, but I've still found the time to read every piece of MCR news I could get my hands on! Why do you ask? /o\)
