my cave is lit by tiny lights

Work continues to be stressful and crazy, well past the point where I believed this crap would be done with, and I feel bad because it's somewhat hampering on a social level. I feel like a cavedweller a lot of the time lately; I don't see much of friends beyond my roomies (lovely though they are). However, we've scheduled the last admissions committee meeting for Friday the 20th, so that should be it. (Not a clean end; there's recruiting and open houses and all kinds of wrap-up, but that's all much more gradual.) AND there's a three-day weekend.
So I have a song meme to do at some point (with uploads!), but here I am being a little too lazy to pull out the pertinent cds, so here is a high school meme instead.
1. Did you date someone from your school?
Er, sort of? My first girlfriend and I started dating the day she graduated (I had another year), and my second girlfriend was in her senior year there while I was a first-year in college.
2. Did you marry someone from your high school?
No, and that would be very surprising.
3. Did you car pool to school?
I mostly walked; I only lived a mile up the hill.
4. What kind of car did you have?
Ha, nothing.
5. What kind of car do you have now?
Still no car, which works pretty well given where I live.
6. It's Friday night...where are you? (then)
Over at
sweetvalleyslut's, eating Chinese and watching Farscape.
7. It is Friday night...where are you? (now)
Lately I'm hanging out in my apartment, eating Chinese and watching BSG with one of my roommates. What can I say?
8. What kind of job did you have in high school?
There was some intermittent babysitting for the precocious child across the street, and then during the summer between junior & senior year I worked part-time at a grocery store. My girlfriend at the time slipped me a note addressed to her "little corporate wench," possibly because I was a bit pissy about the whole thing. So glamorous.
9. What kind of job do you do now?
I'm a staff assistant, working for one of Harvard's grad schools. Totally glamorous, right? Eventually I'll save up enough money and go back to training up for that starving artist position of my dreams.
10. Were you a party animal?
Our parties consisted of playing Apples to Apples and Balderdash! with as much innuendo as possible. Sometimes there was MST3K. Rarely, baking. So: no.
11. Were you considered a flirt?
I doubt it. I was the first person in my group of friends to start dating, but that was kind of a shock to everyone (including me).
12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
I was in chorus until senior year, when I got fed up with the group and quit. We were singing mostly crummy pop arrangements, and people were mostly there to get out of being in classes; not my scene. Many of my friends were in the band, though, so I used to hang out around them a lot.
13. Were you a nerd?
Was I ever.
14. Did you get suspended or expelled?
I don't think I ever even had detention after middle school. I got threatened with it once: I skipped Spanish to go attend the last day of the school's poetry slam, because my friend were performing and we were having a study session anyway. I remember the assistant principle was kind of bewildered when I cheerily informed her that I understood and I'd be happy to take the punishment if my teacher wanted to mete it out - but my teacher didn't care.
I was probably seriously lucky to get away with all the stupid wandering in the halls I did when I was supposed to be in art class, senior year, though.
15. Can you sing the fight song?
Did we have a fight song? I'm sure we did, but I was typically pissy about the whole athletic culture and avoided it as much as I could manage (which was a fair amount).
16. Who was/were your favourite teacher?
Hrm. In spite of being pretty English-focused, I adored my history teachers. Mr. Baldwin taught American History and coached the baseball team. He hero-worshipped Teddy Roosevelt and pinned his picture up on the whiteboard for the duration of our unit. He snarked at me a fair amount (he had this thing where he liked to pick out a liberal and a conservative on the first day of class; I was his choice for liberal . . . which he was not), but I argued him into mentioning the gay rights movement during his unit on the 60s, and last time I saw him (at my brother's graduation), he hugged me. Not a huggy guy, in general.
Also there was Ms. Villani (European history), who was a dignified older woman and rather tart, but also amazing. I want to be her when I'm seventy. She told me that getting highlights in my hair made me look trashy, but she was totally trolling me. Made me totally fascinated with Napoleon, twice.
17. Where did you sit during lunch?
Well, it was a little different every year, since we had four different lunch periods. I would sit at a corner table with whoever shared mine; or at various points we sat outside (when they let us) or in the guidance office (it was quiet there).
18. What was your school's full name?
Northampton High School.
19. When did you graduate?
2002.
20. What was your school mascot?
The Blue Devil.
21. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Fuck no. I made some of the best friends of my life and did a lot of developing, but I'd like to keep moving forward, please. High school is much more fun to read slash about than to live.
22. Did you have fun at Prom?
Yes and no? It was really fraught; I spent most of it with a couple friends who had recently (messily) broken up, one of whom I had the most ridiculous (unrequited) infatuation with. On the other hand, we all wore suits and nearly got kicked out of the women's room, which was funny.
23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with?
I technically "went" with a friend who I don't see much of any more, but I'm going to her opera performance in a couple of weeks. :D
24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion?
I don't know if I'll ever go to a high school reunion. I've kept in touch with the people I wanted to, for the most part.
25. Do you still talk to people from school?
Yes. My best friend was from high school; many others I spend time with whenever we get the chance, though we're a little far flung in recent years.
Well, I'm sure that was fascinating. *g* Anyway, I also have this for you:

I haven't drawn women in forever! That is just wrong, okay? I meant this to be a little more femslashy, but it didn't quite happen. Anyway, I don't feel like I did either of them justice, really, and I have no idea why Greta's wearing pink (I tried all these other colors, but she insisted). Not to mention a couple technical things. All the same, I'm pretty happy with it. Mmmm, curves. I missed them.
I would try and wrap up this post, but my roomie went and Netflixed The Dark Knight and now I'm too distracted. ;)
