My ex asked me this weekend whether I'd finished my Yuletide story. No indeed, but it's moving along. (Though I will say - knowing that there's a relatively concrete neuropsychological reason why I struggle so much with time management does not magically solve the problem!)

This fall has been a lot. The hibernation urge is strong as we move into winter. That said, I haven't been entirely unproductive! [community profile] femslashex reveals went up yesterday:

Vulcan kisses and Fairy Tale AUs )

It was a fun exercise in drawing for fandoms I've been meaning to for ages, and never gotten around to. I should really do more TOS art (how were these my first??); the retro sci-fi costuming is so much fun! Also I've been loving all the canon Harley/Ivy comics I keep catching glimpses of on tumblr ... every once in awhile I feel so genuinely grateful for the way some segments of culture really have changed (or started to) from the norms of even a decade ago.

My own gift was this lovely little Sailor Moon S interlude, A Little More Time, by [archiveofourown.org profile] SugarFey - a depiction of Haruka and Michiru (with a little Setsuna) in between the two major arcs of that season. I've been having a lot of resurgent Sailor Moon feelings this year, and I was so delighted to get this gift. It's just the right mix of sweetness, hotness and angst!

It's very strange how thoroughly out of the habit of reading fanfic I am lately, even though I've participated in so many exchanges this year. I'm always excited to read my gifts, when I get fic, and writing now and then is a delightful and tantalizing challenge, but ... IDK. I do think Yuletide will be different (even though I never manage to read more than a fraction of the archive), because it's very much its own thing. So much variety! Such novelty! And reading the archive is just a favorite holiday tradition, of course.

The malaise is probably a combination of the fact that I don't have a "main" fandom, that the ones I'm most interested in lately are fairly rare, and that I mostly want to listen to audiobooks while I draw (or ride my bike, or do almost anything else). I should find myself some podfic. I'm sure there must be some for The Locked Tomb, at least?

I'm especially excited for [community profile] multifandomdoodle. I would love to have more all-art exchanges; I crave ALL THE FANART even more than I used to. I go looking for some after almost every book I read lately (the genre ones, in any case). If I didn't hate running things like this, I would totally start a book fandoms fanart exchange.

Thank you for creating for me this round! This fest has been one of my favorites since I first discovered it seven years ago, and I'm excited to have fun with it again this year. I hope the process is as enjoyable for you!

I've decided that I'm in the mood for a smaller slate of requests this year (at least, in terms of fandom; some of them have a bunch of pairings). Nearly everything here is something I've asked for, and occasionally received, before, but will never get tired of. And a few ideas are new!

I'm an ... enthusiastic prompter; please, don't feel constrained! Those details are there to give you options, not remove them! If you make something for one of these pairings, and avoid my DNWs, I will be over the moon. <3

[community profile] femslashex reveals are up! I had a lovely time creating this year, as always.

I also received an absolutely delightful Original Fiction story from [archiveofourown.org profile] TheseusInTheMaze, about a witch in trouble who transforms into a cat to escape, only to land in the very inviting lap of a visiting queen ... and quite understandably, struggles to find the will to change back: Shapes, and Their Influence.

I'm deep in Yuletiding now, naturally. And also, this looks like it could be a lot of fun ... I think I might put up a "tree." (You should too! I'm hoping to do some treating.)

Life is ... really, really difficult right now, in a quiet, grinding way. I am going to indulge in as much fannish holiday nonsense as I can possibly manage, because egad, do I need an escape.

Hey there! So first of all, thank you so much in advance for making something for me. I’m so glad to be starting one of my favorite fandom exchanges … it feels like an oasis in this awful year we’ve all been living through. I’m super excited to see what you come up with!

I am a wordy letter-writer who tries to provide lots of info/prompts because I find that sort of thing helpful and fun as a creator, but I definitely don’t want you to feel fenced in by it all! I hope you’ll have fun making whatever you make, and run with your own ideas if you have some that grab you.

Oof, okay, putting my teal deer back in their pen. Thanks so much, and happy fanworking! Yay.

Well, I aten’t dead. Though I have to look at my previous entry, re: "life has been a lot lately," with indulgent wryness, in the circumstances.

I’ve been thoroughly wiped out this long weekend; a combination of (my first) three days’ commuting to and from campus by bike, adjusting to being back on campus at all (with many changes), and a lot of roommate drama (which is thankfully now less drama than "it is sad you’re leaving but this is probably for the best, timing aside").

I also just learned that my shampoo/conditioner of choice for 5+ years has been discontinued, and I’m too late to buy any more for stockpile. That’s just mean-spirited and petty, universe.

But! I’m finding significant consolation in the advent of fandom exchange season (well, the season in which I participate, anyway). A beloved social and creative endeavor that shouldn’t be affected, much, by this goddamn pandemic. [community profile] femslashex just opened up for nominations; I’m excited to draw gals being pals! And I have so many possible ideas for Yuletide. A big, in-depth writing project with a nice base of canon material to build on/research and the motivation of a deadline to make/recipient to please sounds absolutely perfect to me right now.

I watched most of Person of Interest, all of The Expanse, the Netflix Babysitter’s Club adaptation, and Shoujo Kakumei Utena, the final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and of course The Old Guard during quarantine, and I’m already rereading Harrow the Ninth. My body is ready for a femslash exchange. (Maybe yours is too? :D?)

I’m in touch with most of you elsewhere, but - much love, fandom folks. I hope you’re as well as you possibly can be right now.

Egad, I am so sleepy.

This ... is an unusually and especially intense holiday season in many ways. My partner had top surgery two weeks ago, so I've been spending a great deal of time a few towns over at their place, caring for them and helping my metamour around the apartment. (I also cooked half our Thanksgiving meal, but that's standard!) This weekend, one of my dearest friends is having a baby shower (my second nibling is coming soon), and the weekend after that, I'll be attending (and briefly cameoing in) an unusual theatrical production which will have emotionally high stakes for my entire family of origin. And I mean, you know. Yuletide, Christmas and Hanukkah presents and a lot of cross-state travel.

Is it 2020 yet?

Really, all of this (hopefully including that performance) is good stuff, it's just ... so much. All crammed together. Gah.

Anyway, I did want to share my [community profile] femslashex piece! It's post-film Edith/Lucille from Crimson Peak, and I had the most splendidly self-indulgent time with all the crosshatching.

I also received a lovely bit of Rachel/Kitty futurefic from [archiveofourown.org profile] Sheliak, A Future, Brick by Brick. My forever OTP. <3

And now it's back to what is totally my dream Yuletide assignment! If only I can stay awake!

Well, apart from the fact that everything is terrible I love this time of year so much. I have my favorite indie convention coming up this weekend, [community profile] femslashex stories and art have just been revealed, [community profile] yuletide assignments are out ... and of course there's Halloween and (theoretically, sometimes) cool, crisp weather and changing leaves, etc.

My [community profile] yuletide assignment is exciting and challenging and I am thrilled with it; I can hardly wait to start reviewing the source material! And check out the not one but two amazing femslash gift fics I found in my inbox this weekend ...! Both answering requests I've been stubbornly making for years, too. <3

Favors: Killjoys, Dutch/Delle Seyah Kendry, Explicit. The hot, aggressive but relatively light fake relationship/kinky sex story I've been dying for since season one!

Allegiances: Craft Sequence, Tara Abernathy/Catherine Elle(/Seril), Teen. One of my favorite pairings in one of my favorite series, brought together by an uneasy working relationship and an uncomfortable (but inexorable) divine connection. JFC, I'm delighted.

Sigh, I suppose I should get back to work, which is very boring today. Before I do, though ... I was poking around the [community profile] yuletide community for the first time in ages, and I came across something intriguing: a challenge for folks who would enjoy receiving art treats for their Yuletide requests. Be still my overambitious fanartist heart!

Basically, people are leaving comments if they'd welcome fanart treats, and you should all go add yourselves immediately to: the Wrapping Paper Challenge on dreamwidth or on LJ. YAY.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry this took me so long. The last couple weeks have been completely overwhelming at work, etc, and I’ve struggled to find the bandwidth. I hope it hasn’t caused you too much trouble!

But anyway, thanks! )

I’ve been thinking about posting here again (for things other than exchange letters) a whole bunch lately, especially with rumors of Tumblr’s increasing instability as a platform, and my lack of motivation to check out this Imzy thing. Oh, I’m sure if that’s where the next great migration lands, I’ll wind up following. But in the meantime, I miss this space, the sense of having a stable ’home’ for my fannish/private self online. I doubt I’ll ever post more than sporadically, since a lot of my internet/social media time is taken up by my more public persona, but even so.

Anyway, speaking of exchanges, sign-ups are open for [community profile] femslashex, and you should totally get in on it. It’s become my favorite annual fannish event, for fairly obvious reasons ... all femslash, massively multifandom, and includes fanart. I really like this trend in fanwork exchanges, even though there are a fairly small number of fanart pieces every year; I’m not sure if it’s the problem with outreach to fanartists (this is definitely an issue, and one I’m at a loss with), the number of people only requesting fanfic, or both. (Request fanart, people. Please? I mean, I get wanting a story, but we make nice things toooo, and we want to make them for you!)

Also, possibly because I’ve become a heavy Goodreads user in the past year (and am thus much more conscious of what I’ve read when), I find myself wanting so many small SFF book fandoms lately. So I made a fairly tl;dr post over on my tumblr with some recs for books you should read and sign up for in exchanges! And now I’m going to crosspost it here.

So I almost didn't watch the current season of Teen Wolf (which might have been a wise choice) because I was so sad and frustrated about Allison Argent's death. She was my favorite character, and I was not at all happy with how she was handled in 3B; even given that Crystal Reed wanted to leave the show, she was one of the main characters and deserved a much better closing arc. So as the new season was approaching, I started daydreaming about a spin-off. I mean, we have werewolves and banshees ... why not ghosts?

It's a shame that I can't find a functional reversebang, so I can try to get someone to fic this properly ... but I'm just going to go ahead and make so much art.

Here's a montage of 'excerpts' from the 'pilot episode.' )

And of course, there's the promotional image I posted awhile back, and ghostly embraces! [personal profile] ataratah even drew this lovely piece based on my original musing. I plan to do a whole bunch more "excerpt" images (although probably not another whole episode's worth). I guess I kind of needed an ongoing fandom project? :D?

Also, speaking of [personal profile] ataratah, here's one more piece of TW fanart based on a hilariously awesome prompt from her. Werewolf cabbage babies! )

Gotta dash (new temp job, whee), but before I forget - you guys REALLY SHOULD consider signing up for [community profile] femslashex! It's a MULTIFANDOM FIC AND ART EXCHANGE, focused on pairings with no canonically male-identified characters! There are so many amaaaazing fandoms. :D I'm so excited! It's great that more fests are starting to include art. <3

Also, this month I'm reccing Teen Wolf over on [community profile] fanart_recs, which is a great comm you should know about. I'll post a round-up here when I'm done. (Next month I'm doing Sailor Moon!)
