I didn't much like Mai's relationship with Zuko either, for most of the season; while we had hints that she'd been crushing on him since childhood, they seemed really bored and unhappy together. But "The Boiling Rock" really went a long way for me. I'm not satisfied with them, but now I see potential where I didn't really before.
I don't have time to watch it from the beginning now, but I'm really looking forward to doing that. :D
