I feel like I'm making some progress on this moving thing? Yesterday I finished getting my books, notebooks, sketchbooks, art supplies and DVDs all boxed up--so there's what? clothing, technology, and a daunting amount of random odds-and-ends left to go--and this morning I managed to get permits/reserved space for a van on both streets. It's all very surreal. This is really only my second move (not counting the times when I was doing it with my whole family, and not actually in charge).
On the other hand, my roommates are having exactly no luck locating a replacement for me, which is terrifying. I knew this was a risk, but I thought there'd be people looking. I was looking during this time of year, a couple years back. I made my bed and I'll lie in it, but. :/ If I'm stuck paying double rent for another month I won't be out on the street, but it'll certainly be a blow. (If any of you happen to know someone looking in the Boston area, please do feel free to send them my way!)
Bleurgh. Fortunately, fandom is lovely! I haven't been able to spend quite as much time obsessing over it as usual, but
yuletide nominations are open! :D I have a lengthy list of potential offers that will need to be revised extensively once they're finished. But!
I have thoughts on nominations/requests! So I'm feeling very femslashy this year (even moreso than usual, I mean). I think a couple of my requests will be repeats of past years (I'm still not tired of asking for Tambi/Casey), but then someone was talking about nominating Dar Williams songs, and now I'm kind of considering asking for fic based on her song "Alleluia." Which was part of the inspiration for one of my original comics, actually (but in a vague sort of way.)
So I'm considering:
1. Dar Williams - Alleluia (dead girl/punk angel)
2. Fried Green Tomatoes (Idgie/Ruth, something happy in their younger days)
3. Strangers in Paradise (Tambi/Casey, maybe set right around the last few issues)
4. Victor/Victoria (fixing the ending; might get silly and suggest Victoria/Norma)
With a few possible alternates:
-Excalibur (classic comic) (Rachel/Kitty; hey, I got away with nom-ing this before)
-Family Man (webcomic - probably gen; I'd like Luther/Lucien but I'd feel weirdly guilty?)
-Finder (comic) (I want more about Marcie Grosvenor, or Magri White, or both)
-Penelope (movie) (Penelope/Annie, probably set mid-film?)
-Phonogram (comic) (gen, probably with David Kohl and some suggested genres of music)
-The Unwritten (comic) (okay, I'm not even sure, there are so many possibilities)
So with an eye on the current nominations list, I think I'll wind up nominating the following. (A surprising number of the things I was considering are up already, particularly things I want to write. I thought I was pretty much the only person interested in Penelope last year. And Castle Waiting's up, and Razia's Shadow, though I guess that's not so surprising.)
1. Alleluia - Dar Williams (song)
2. Excalibur (1988 comic)
3. Family Man (webcomic)
4. Finder (comic)
5. The Unwritten (comic)
6. Victor/Victoria
I'm going to hold off, though, maybe even until Sunday when this moving business is over. I've already spent way more time on this than I should (but it's a really comforting distraction).
[ETA:] Oh hey, wait, they just made Leverage eligible. (And Sports Night!) Now I'm going to have to rethink everything. ;)
[ETA the second:] Someone nominated Janelle Monae's Metropolis: The Chase Suite! Song/album fandoms have really not interested me before this year, but damn, that is awesome.
