reflectedeveHappy Monday, kids. I'm trying to shake off the sleepiness of my much needed weekend off (from everything) and get down to business with this comic script. It's a little like pulling teeth, but that's what I get for waiting so long, I think; not that several years of just learning to express things visually were poorly spent, but for awhile there I think I thought I had a shortcut around the nuts and bolts of writing. Tsk, no.
It's been lovely, though. The weather's absurdly gorgeous, so I've done a lot of wandering around in the sun, visiting my alma mater's annual bulb show and helping my mother with her garden. Also there's been sushi and sleep and Lord Peter Wimsey as played by Ian Carmichael (not quite my own mental picture, but I love his voice) and a whole lot of rereading Finder (never not in love, oh). And precious little internet, which was probably healthy, even though I miss the interactions. Fic will be my reward later this week, if I'm productive. Also maybe I'll cave and watch the leaked Korra episode (if I can get my connection to function that well). So excited about that, omg.
You know you need a little vacation when you manage to walk headfirst into a traffic sign and bleed all over the sidewalk on a Thursday morning. I seem to remember reading (in any number of YA adventure and fantasy novels, I suspect) that even extremely minor head wounds bleed profusely, so hurrah for firsthand knowledge? /o\ Seriously, though, that sign is a menace; it sits on the corner nearest my school and is just low enough to be a hazard for someone of my height. In fact, several classmates and alums have also had run-ins with it, but I'm not sure any of them have staggered away bleeding all over their faces as a result. (Sorry.) I left little drops all over the sidewalk, scared the shit out of one of my best friends when he came up behind me fumbling for my key-card, and had to miss work in order to spent awhile applying pressure to the top of my head (and then washing the pink tinge out of my hair). It's going to make an entertaining little diary strip, although I'm not sure anyone finds it as funny as I do, in retrospect. It was just so ridiculous, and it saves me a little embarrassment. I swear I'm not normally so completely inattentive.
Right, enough rambling. I wonder what the etiquette would be on photographing random commercial establishments (like a coffee shop, say, or a small independent bookstore) for reference? I've never really tried it before, and it seems possible that someone might object ...

I'd feel better asking (and anyway my phone camera is loud and not sneaky), but somehow that seems like a really weird request. If these establishments were where I'm currently living, I'd just go in and draw them a lot and I doubt anyone would object; it's a shame I'm not a faster sketcher.

Date: 2012-03-20 02:42 pm (UTC)I recommend it highly! The new "Finder Library" volumes from Dark Horse look mighty snazzy, too. (If the books are totally inaccessible where you are--do you know if your library system takes new book requests or anything like that?--part of the next, unpublished volume is actually up to be read free on the website. I haven't looked at it in awhile, but while it's connected to other parts of the series, it probably doesn't rely on them; Finder's the kind of series with multiple entry points because lots of the books focus on completely different characters and jump around on the timeline.)
