trying to take this all in
Nov. 7th, 2007 12:36 amEeee, I just received my
yuletart assignment! I'm so excited! This is going to be totally awesome, I'm so glad I signed up.
So I think this one merits a letter.
Dear
yuletart Santa,
Thanks so much for putting up with my weird requests! I was a little confused about how to go about signing up for this challenge. Please don't panic if it's not what you expected; I am going to be very easy to please. I'm going to babble a bit now, but that's all totally ignorable; feel free to skip down to the last line of this letter (you'll see bold text).
I realize that I named a lot of pairings. Let me make this clear right now: I am totally fine with gen, too. Completely. I tend to have a ship-centric approach to fandom, but I enjoy gen a great deal, and I just generally love fanart. It's made me sad for years that there are so few fannish activities/challenges/exchanges for non-graphic design (manips, icons) fanart, and I am just so excited about this one!
As to my likes, you'll note that I'm particularly fond of femslash/female friendship/female characters in general; also (male) slash; and also complex antagonistic/enemy/rival relationships.
I love comics and humor in my fanart. I also love pretty pinups and costume redesigns. I am fond of smut and equally fond of totally PG-rated work. Whatever suits your creative fancy, really. ^^
I actually can't come up with much of anything to ask you to avoid, except one thing: I don't like ridiculously overblown female proportions (you know, the breasts-larger-than-her-head fun mainstream-comic standard anatomy weirdness). I prefer my female characters to look real/interesting/cute rather than Playboy/model/modern "ideal" esque. Which doesn't mean "no sexy." I am a queer woman. I love the sexy in both genders. ^^ (While we're at it, though: I like my men pretty but not downright girly. Though crossdressing can be hot on either gender. I'm not fond of excessive musculature.) That's it for any cautions.
I talk a lot. Sorry. You know you totally have free reign here, right? I just happen to like it when people who request work from me give me lots of details . . . if you don't, ignore me. ^^;
If you feel like checking out my my fannish website, feel free. Characters I tend to draw aren't necessarily representative of characters I like to see, since I find some of my favorites plenty challenging, particularly the men. (I really am that obsessed with Rachel Summers, though, yes. ^^; And never satisfied with my own depictions.)
Thank you again, so much, and sorry again for the babbling. I always do this, I can't help it, but I promise I'm not really all that crazy. And above all, please draw what you feel inspired to draw. Lord knows, I understand that it just doesn't work to force it.
I mean, you're drawing me fanart. You are my hero. Period. :)
[ETA:]Okay, so browsing around, I'm noticing that people are putting in details about their fandoms. Maybe I should do that.
This second LJ-cut? Totally voluntary. Please don't click unless you actively want more detail. I'm not going to dictate specific pictures--I'd rather see what you feel inspired to draw--but I'll throw around a few general suggestions/things I like. Briefly. :)
So. Fandoms I asked for. It was a long list, as I wanted to give you options. I'll make them alphabetical so you don't think I have super- strong preferences and feel obligated. (Remember that I love comics/humor for any of these, as well--I'm not going to say it for each individual one.)
Buffy: Buffy and Faith fighting together, fighting each other, or being shippy. Or just badass Faith art.
DCU/Smallville: Lex based on Smallville Lex is preferred, but Lex and Superman is preferred over Lex and Clark in Smallville. Enemy subtext is good, so is outright shippiness. (You can get a good idea of what I like about their relationship, probably just by glancing over my Smallville recs at my website.) Including Kon-El/Superboy/Conner is always neat, if that tickles your fancy.
Excalibur: Anything with Ray being powerful (particularly as the Phoenix), of her and Kitty fighting alongside each other or hanging out (preferably not in a super-girly way, like gushing over guys or shopping), or of them in a shippy situation. Designing Rachel a new costume would be fabulous. Stuff with Kitty geeking out is also awesome. I love Lockheed, too (he's not in most of my art because I cannot draw him). Oh, and it's fine if you want to set it in current continuity rather than Excalibur-time; just avoid that green/yellow/miniskirt Marvel Girl outfit, please, I really dislike it.
Good Omens: Crowley and Aziraphale, gen or slashy, in historical settings, book scenes, domestic situations . . . just about anything, but prefer no excessive angst. Oh, and I really don't see Aziraphale as girly/bishie.
Kim Possible: Kim and Shego fighting; Kim and Shego being shippy (prefer aggressive to overly romantic); future-art (Kim in college or as an adult, for instance) involving both Kim and Shego
Labyrinth: Pretty Jareth pinup art, Jareth/Sarah schmoop; Jareth/Sarah with Sarah being dominant/aggressive/empowered; goofy stuff is very much encouraged, also (feel free to mock!)
Runaways: On a purely aesthetic girly level: anything of Karolina being pretty and sparkly is completely awesome. Stuff with her and Nico hanging out, fighting alongside each other, or being shippy is also encouraged. Neat clothing designs are awesome, as is the basic dark/light contrast of their powers.
(more Runaways: Chase and Gert cuteness; Chase/Gert/Victor love triangle; Chase/Victor slash (possibly hurt-comfort); the team kicking ass or hanging out together)
Stargate: Atlantis: Teyla fighting, looking tough and regal, secretly amused . . . Teyla hanging out with any/all of her team . . . and these combinations, gen or femslash: Teyla/Elizabeth, Teyla/Sora, Teyla/Heightmeyer, Teyla/Dr. Keller, Teyla/girl!John
Veronica Mars: Veronica being tough and sleuthy; Veronica being haunted by Lilly; Veronica/Lilly femslash; Veronica and first-season Weevil, an awesome partnership; Veronica and first-season Logan, snarking (no weepy relationship drama, please); Veronica/Mac gen or femslash
X-Factor: Theresa and Monet fighting together, snarking at each other, or being slashy; Madrox being . . . multiple, in one way or another (including possibly multiple self slash); the team getting their sleuth on or just hanging out together
So I think this one merits a letter.
