Last night I hung out with [livejournal.com profile] hermionesviolin, and totally got defensive about the word "emo" (it totally has no meaning anymore, I swear, but anyway MCR do not qualify). Poor Lisbet; she is so understanding of my crazy. Oh, this fandom. <3

I should work on one of my comics this weekend--or probably that anthology submission I've been putting off--but instead, I'm apparently going to write fic. I don't remember the last time I wrote fic that wasn't for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide (or [livejournal.com profile] comica_obscura, the one time).

Speaking of which, flist, do many of you read much genderfuck? I've noticed that, in many (probably most) of the boy-randomly-wakes-up-female fic that I've read, the story continues to use male pronouns throughout. This makes all the sense in the world, from a self-identification standpoint, but I have occasionally found it confusing, particularly during sex scenes. Do any of you have thoughts on the subject?

In other news, Avatar continues to be the most fucking amazing show ever, and particularly from a gender standpoint. I really need to rhapsodize about "The Boiling Rock" parts one and two, at some point. (I will also definitely finish that crack!comic this weekend, which maybe two or three other people will appreciate.)

By the way, Rel, I am enjoying the hell out of your Revenge Tragedy mix; I think there are a few artists I may need to look into further. And appropriately, one of the roomies and I are going to watch Sweeney Todd (the Depp version) tonight. (Why is my life so themed lately? It is practically color-coded.)

Hee. I try not to get defensive about the emo thing anymore, since MCR doesn't really care, but my innate desire to correct people who are WRONG always comes out anyway. It's funny how little it applies to any of the bandom bands anymore, especially Panic, no matter what random definition of the word you're using. Though Gerard recently did declare himself "the Sheriff of Emotown," which makes me giggle.

I get really annoyed if a sexswapped character changes pronouns. Pete or Spencer or whoever (I think I can come up with a sexswap story about just about everyone in bandom, how awesome is that?) is still a dude, that's still how they identify--if it's not then you're telling a completely different story. How other people in the story refer to them might be a little flexible, but I'd expect at least some of them to be pissed if their bandmates or whoever started using female pronouns for them, since their gender is still male.

And it never really confuses me anymore, but that's probably because I have read a hell of a lot of this stuff. And I'd much rather be mildly confused than have to stop reading porn because someone has made me think that they have bad gender politics. I think most people who will actually read sexswap feel the same way.

Relatedly, I want boy!Alicia/girl!Mikey porn.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOUR COMIC. I CANNOT WAIT. ALSO, &AVATAR; Too soon to write Spoiler/Spoiler prison sex/hc/revenge plotting?

This is how I feel about your post:

Emo: Stupid label. Go you!
Fic: Yay!
Pronouns: Do not confuse me, but I wonder how much of that is because I am never really confused by gender complications.
Avatar: Must. Watch. More.
Music: What artists are you liking that you did not know about before? I am always up for sharing music. Also, I should probably confess that I had a very hard time not putting the entire Sweeney Todd musical soundtrack on the mix.
