Something else that I love? bexless' Unholyverse series. I Have Been All Things Unholy was basically my dream fic. (Since I was sixteen, I've occasionally been working on a foolishly epic comic concept about Catholicism and agnosticism that features the devil masquerading as a priest. I am kind of a theology nerd. There is nothing I love more than these sorts of themes.) I really wanted to do fanart for it - heck, I'd been wanting to do priest!Gerard fanart since my second week in bandom, when I first saw the photoshoot - but weirdly, I just didn't have any ideas. Last year was not a good year for art.

I did doodle this little panel the other day . . . of course, I forgot that Ray's actually supposed to be laughing when he says that line, but that bit cracks me up every time regardless.

But hey, it's a new year, I'm a whole new fanartist, and Staring Through The Demons proved . . . very inspiring. *g*

Three images below the cut, rated no higher than PG-13. About as spoilery as it gets, in case you're saving the series up to read when it's done.

I wasn't going to put captions in the inked versions of these, but then the second one wound up incorporating the words, so I just made it consistent. Quotes are from the fic, of course, and thus bexless.



The kiss! Kisses are fucking hard to draw . . . only took me three tries. *g* Background has issues and I went and put Frank's lipring on the wrong side (one of my reference images was flipped and I'm a little dumb when I'm into it), but ah well. Mikey, oddly, is my favorite part (I loved that the fic was from his perspective).



I cannot resist a big dramatic sacrificial moment. And . . . yes. ;_; (There is a big version of this one here.)



Group shot! Dear gods, I can't draw Ray. /o\ Actually, most of them look a little off, but I don't know . . . yay team! Band! Whichever. ♥

Whew. I have been working on those for awhile now. :)

I love all three of these so much! Mikey's face in the first one, and Frank and Gerard just clinging to each other so desperately. And Frank's hand reaching out to Gerard in the second one. With the rosary, that was a nice touch. And all of their faces in the last one! I loooove them.

I also enjoyed the little Ray panel and his face while he says he's a hairdresser. He looks so distraught at the fact! :D

Oh, these are amazing. I love the way you use details to set off the big action of the scene - Mikey's Joy Division t-shirt during the phone call, the microwave in the kiss scene. And that kiss - I can't stop looking at it, it's wonderful. I love how you've drawn Gerard in the climax in a very Black-Parade-like jacket - something about the way his arms are thrown back and the microphone just by his knee makes it very reminiscent of a concert photograph where he's performing, and I really like the way that you've echoed that in that scene. Really, really amazing. <3!!!

Heh, so I had something like half a reference sheet with pictures of Gerard throwing his head back onstage. ;) It's not directly translated, I wanted them more for mood, but yeah. (He was meant to look Christlike, but he often kind of does, so.)

So as I just told you in a way-too-interrupted-by-work way, I love them. I am SO excited to finally see them all. The kissing is totally right, and also Frank in the last one--his body language is so spot on.

SO PRETTY. ILU. <3 I still love the occasional outlining thing you've been doing too. And your Bob is hawt. And also, they all look like them! They look like them, you-style. Which is a good way to be. Also, something I didn't mention when I saw the 2nd one the first time (...) is how awesome the background is. I love the expressiveness of even the slumped-over figures. And little evil hooded dude!

You are totally going to make noises about this, but whatever, I am SO JEALOUS OF YOUR SKILLS.

I guess that having them look like themselves, me-style, is really the ultimate goal . . . to turn them into my own characters rather than half-attempts at portraiture, which really isn't my strength. So that's good to hear!

I love B/W drawings and yours are spectacular! I like all the details you put into them, like Frank's tattoos and the lighting on Gerard's jacket in the second one and holy cow! Mickey's tee in the third is pretty much a photograph! Oh, and the way you incorporated the caption in the second one is <3 :)
It's amazing how many different texture you're able to draw. I fell in love with the lower left corner of the second panel.

I love how dynamic and expressive all of these are, so full of movement and emotions - Frank's face and hands and Mikey's face in the background in the first one, and Frank's hand and the audience in the second, and Mikey on the phone and Frank on the sofa in the third one. Lovely!!

but also there is something about the last one that reminds me of all those pictures where angels and saints are crowding round mary or the baby jesus... I don't know why, i think its ray's stance and the expression on his face. stupid :P

Wow, that's high praise, thank you. :) I haven't read much of Campbell's work, but it's beautiful. Also, while there wasn't any intentional influence on that particular piece, I'm very fond of religious art and imagery (particularly some of the medieval Catholic paintings), so that's neat!

Woah- these are gorgeous. They remind me of old, block-carved prints, with the bold, thick lines and the solid shading. Gerard's pose in the second one is just wrenching though it really shouldn't be funny to me how much the audience look like "WALK/DON'T WALK" figures. Er. May I friend?

Hi. You don't know me, but I too adore that story. But you know what? I adore these drawings just as much. The kiss looks fantastic, as does your Gerard (he looks almost identical, exactly like a priest-Gerard would). And your Bob looks so....Bob-like. That's not to say the others don't look good too, but I happen to really like those two. You have some awesome talent, I'm rather jealous :)
