one day, though it might as well be someday

I had such a bizarre anxiety dream last night. I was hanging around a nonexistent college (I don't know where it was supposed to be, but thinking back the visuals were totally invented), when someone helpful and administrative reminded me that I had a room booked for my presentation very shortly. It turned out that I was in fact scheduled to defend my dissertation, but I had completely forgotten to even do a dissertation. I flailed around madly trying to construct a thesis based on some graphic novels I'd read recently, and finally decided to go to the room and explain that I'd been scheduled without my knowledge and wasn't ready yet.

The room turned out to be a lecture hall full of every professor in the department where I work IRL (which is, you know, about as far from lit/art/etc as you can get). The whole thing felt so vivid, from the people wishing me good luck to the piercing stare of the older professor who presides over one of the degrees here (and works across the hall from me).

I woke up around 5:30 a.m. and just sort of sat there all WTF; I'm not in grad school, and the one I'm aiming at doesn't exactly involve traditional dissertations. Thank goodness it's Friday, I guess. I'm looking forward to this weekend, and particularly the rare opportunity to geek out with my mother. ♥
