I haven't been spending much time on the internet, this break! Well, apart from reading [livejournal.com profile] yuletide stories, anyway. ;) A lot has been going on. I spent the better part of two days with a visiting [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut, took my little brother to see my favorite small band (Enter the Haggis, of course), and oh right: someone tried to burn down my TOWN. Jesus fucking christ. My family and friends are all fine, but that was an awful business. (I am hoping so hard that the past tense is appropriate, here. These are not the first "suspicious" fires we've had in recent years, though they were the first--and hopefully last--deaths.)

2009 has not been a banner year for most people I know (to put it lightly, in some cases), and in general this decade has seen some severe downs (though it's had its ups as well). In spite of a whole lot of political fatigue, I'm trying to keep my hopes up for the new year. I have a lot of plans for it!

I'll save my list of the year's fanworks for after [livejournal.com profile] yuletart and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide reveals, but have a New Year's art meme, copied from [livejournal.com profile] glockgal:

Fanart Drawn: Around 20 completed pieces of fanart in all, 3 of which were comic pages. That's really quite good, for me. /o\ (Also, 12 original comic strips and a few odd pieces of illustration. :D)

High Points of the Year: Kickass fandom challenges that really brought out the best in me, and had me stretching in both theme and technique. (Also, a newfound drive to keep making comics, original and fan both.)

Low Points: I burnt out a bit on fanart towards the end of the summer, and was forced to drop out of the [livejournal.com profile] bandgirlsbang challenge. :( I felt like a jerk! I was so excited for that one, too.

What I'm looking forward to in 2010: Definitely more fanart challenges, although my fanart production overall is likely to drop a bit. This isn't a bad thing: I have a number of major original projects lined up, and I plan to apply to grad school at the end of the year! :D

What I missed in 2009: Women! I drew much, much less femslash than in previous years.

Best Art for the Year: I'm torn about this. I was particularly proud of both my Staring Through The Demons illustrations and my Sweet Charity contribution, but . . . my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart submission probably wins, I think. :) I spent two solid weeks on that thing.

Worst Art: I wouldn't say it was bad, but this was hardly good enough as the year's sole tribute to my snazzy "new" fandom. I must do more next year.

Art Resolution for 2010: For fanart? More Star Trek, more women, and more pushing myself in new directions. Maybe I'll take drawbles at some point. ;) (For original art: completing at least one minicomic. Making significant progress on one of my languishing long-term projects. Grad school application!)

Happy New Year to all of you lovely people. ♥ I met quite a few of you over the course of the last year, and got to know several of you much better than I had before! I'm very grateful for that part, lumps and bumps aside. :)
