I've become embroiled in an attempt to stop my landlady from exterminating the beehive which currently resides in our wall. We need to get the bees out--ever since it got cold, they've been making their way inside, which is an unhealthy situation all around--but my roomie and I would like to see them relocated alive. :( Bees are important! None of the keepers I've contacted today picked up the phone, so I've left lots of messages . . . it looks like this is going to be messy no matter what happens, ugh.

Also, how is it mid-February already? DDDD: There's so much I have to get done by the end of the month! Thank goodness it's a three-day weekend, anyway. Gah.

On a more fannish note, I wound up watching the new Sherlock Holmes movie yesterday; I enjoyed it, but I'm a little puzzled. Robert Downey Jr.'s Holmes really didn't jive with the Holmes characterization in my head at all, and I don't know why I'm so surprised by that? I've only read two of the novels and a handful of the earliest short stories (plus seen a couple Baskerville adaptations), so I don't know - maybe I'm missing a link somewhere along these 100+ years of literary/film tradition. I liked him, and I liked his deductive skill and rudeness and definitely his relationship with Watson, but somehow he didn't sound right. (Literary Holmes' speech patterns are deceptively self-effacing and understated, which totally packs a wallop when he's brilliant and also a complete jerk.) Actually, it was a little like Holmes by way of Tony Stark, which could be my problem: I'm having trouble with my actor/character associations. I definitely need to read more, and also watch it again.

That said, I adored Jude Law as Watson, much as expected, and I enjoyed the crazy pulpy black magic (that really isn't, or I would have hated it) plot, even though it was certainly more crazy and action-packed than the other Holmes stuff I've experienced. Irene Adler was pretty awesome, and I really liked what they did with Moriarty (not bad for sequel set-up, either). And the music! Did anyone else completely love it? I'll have to buy the score.

I've totally been avoiding everyone else's thoughts on the movie, so I guess I'll have to go look for them now. :)

White Collar continues to be just like fanfiction, which is entertaining! Also, I am really excited about this news (season 2 casting spoilers!). Leverage remains my favorite thing on TV right now, though - I need to watch this week's tonight. I've just caught up on Being Human, too, and Annie has been particularly awesome lately, although I'm a little irked by Mitchell suddenly devolving into all this "save me" business with Lucy. Bleh.

Hey, has anyone been watching Caprica? Is it worth checking out?
