don't let those precious moments fool you

reflectedeveI'm having a really pleasant little mini-vacation at home in Western Mass, conveniently ignoring the fact that everything is about to go to hell at work and that winter, meanwhile, has decided to stage a comeback. (Friday was gorgeous and actually hit the lower 60s ... before dropping 30 degrees overnight. COME BACK SOON.) I've had cafe-time, rabbit-time and excellent company (claims of lycanthropy notwithstanding, in a couple cases), and today I saw the re-restored Metropolis with live musical accompaniment, which was pretty fucking stellar.
Before I try to wring a bit more progress out of my current fanart project tonight (Photoshop has my computer moving at speeds comparable to a three-toed sloth, sigh, my computer needs some work), here are two memes I have stolen from a good chunk of everybody. :)
1. I am a cartoonist, a New Englander, a fan, a bit of a clown, rambly, dramatic, and stubborn.
2. The bravest thing I've ever done was I have no idea, really. Probably leaving home, which doesn’t seem worth bragging about, but it was a big deal for me.
3. I feel prettiest when I’ve just had my hair clipped, I’m wearing a tie or really interesting socks, and I'm either in good company or off on my own with things to do.
4. Something that keeps me awake at night is feeling disconnected from people; worrying that my life plans just won't cut it; zombies (seriously, I never should have watched the Walking Dead premiere back in October; this is ridiculous).
5. My favorite meal in the whole world is I have a particular soft spot for my mother’s creamy red pepper pasta with chicken. Also, I really like making myself this coconut/curry red lentil soup
6. The way to my heart is caring intensely, and being a challenge. Making things always helps, too.
7. I would like to get my shit together enough to stop beating myself up for things; even when it’s justified, it rarely helps.
Where were you born? Portland, Oregon (but we didn't stay long)
Who do you love? My parents, my little brother, and my close friends. Also a lot of fictional characters and inspirational creative types, in a different sense.
Did you have a cat when you were little? No, we never had anything but goldfish. I always wanted one; my brother and I even held a makeshift protest at one point, with signs. Later, we both developed allergies. :(
Who hurt hurt you most? I have no use for this question.
How do you stay alive? I draw and draw until I lose track of everything else. I talk to my friends. I sing a lot, in elevators and back stairways and around my apartment. I spend as much time with fiction as I can get away with, and I run away to my hometown for the weekend when I feel overwhelmed.
What color are your eyes? Sort of a mossy green.
What color is your aura? I have no clue, but I’d be interested in finding out.
What color is your underwear? Black.
How many people have you abandoned? Most of my partings have been down to mutual drifting, I think, but there have been a few.
What’s your favorite food? Creamy pasta dishes, curry, various pureed vegetable soups, Herrell’s ice cream, red velvet or chocolate mint cupcakes, blood oranges, raspberries and peaches.
Did you like school? Very much (the academics, anyway), but I was also ready to be done with it when I left. I’m the daughter of a teacher who spent most of her childhood on a secondary school campus. I needed a change (so of course, I work for a school now).
Do you want more? School? Yes, but only the kind I’m going to be getting – school for making my favorite things. More in general? Yes, yes, yes.
What does it mean to be in love? That is a question.
Do you believe in magic? Of a kind, but you can’t activate it with sigils. Sorry, Grant.
Do people think you’re crazy? I think people mostly think I’m funny, and a little odd.
Are you? I have not been diagnosed with a mental illness. I certainly have issues, and occasionally they get the better of me, but I work on and with them as much as I can.
How old were you when you realized you’re all alone? 24. I was lying in bed one night, and I basically felt like I was going to fall through the ceiling.
How old were you when you realized you’re not alone? Well, honestly, hmm.
How do you wield power? Strategically.
What’s your favorite outfit? Anything I can wear with a tie or my fedora. If I can make either of those look nice with jeans, so much the better.
What helps you sleep? Soothing music, cool air, lots of blankets, and pitch darkness. I often sleep with a blindfold.
What flavor makes you gag? The “wrong” things being sweet.
Do you feel beautiful? Recently, yes. It’s really nice.
Are you afraid of the dark? Not for its own sake, but sometimes I’m afraid of places that are dark.
Do you believe in reincarnation? I don’t really have any specific beliefs (one way or another) about what happens “after.” So far, I’ve always been inclined to say “wait and see.”
