reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (hold my hand - snuggles on tour)
Looks like someone over at [livejournal.com profile] mcr_pic_spam decided to cheer me up after this shitty day. ♥ Extra-perfect considering the set of fic illustrations I'm working on right now.

Unsurprisingly, I am completely in love with MCR's cover of "Desolation Row." Bob Dylan songs as punk music? It works for me. (As Gerard's voice in general works for me, of course - if you know what I mean, and I think you do.) I've been resisting most of the Watchmen fever up until now (I tend to stay neutral about comic book adaptations 'til I've seen them - with the exception of The Dark Knight, nothing is awesomeness guaranteed), but it's finally time to reread the damn thing so I'll have it fresh in my mind. It's taking me forever to read anything right now, because I've spent almost every free minute for the last two weeks on my sketchbook, so.

In other news, way to go Neil Gaiman. :D I've been holding off on reading that book until the paperback comes out, but we'll see if I can hold out that long.

Okay, wow, what a day I'm having. Art exhibit, and lots about comics. )

I think I'm going to want to try and write more about comics in the future. (You never know, with me: I have ten thousand projects at once, and I often don't finish any of them. But I feel as though I have some essays, or at least questioning posts, brewing.) I also think I may go back to my recommendation project of last year; I kept mentioning titles to [livejournal.com profile] omnia_mutantur, which she hadn't read, and well. I can be a resource, and would like to be!

This post . . . is probably going to be largely crossposted to my RL journal. I'm posting here, though, because this journal is where I live lately: I've been feeling more at home with fandom (for the most part) than with my scattered collective of RL friends and acquaintances. (Not to malign those of you who read here as well! I love you all. And part of the reason you're here is that . . . I feel like I can talk about more things in front of you. I censor myself so much more over there.)

So I was wondering!

[Poll #1230176]

There's no guarantee that I'll do any or all of these things, and if I do, I have no idea what the frequency will be. But most such posts will be locked, particularly if they include my original art or link to any of my RL-oriented internet accounts. I don't want to spam anyone who doesn't want to see this stuff, and I know many of us don't know each other well. :)

I should probably go to the grocery store now, but I think I'm going to go watch that Dark Horse interview from SDCC, and then curl up with some movie and draw.

Way to go, Gerard. ♥ An Eisner on his first try! I can't wait for more SDCC news. (I'm sad to be missing it, as always. One day I will go!)

I haven't watched this little interview yet, but the screencaps are adorable. Oh Gerard, you fit in very well with your (other) profession.

Going out with some friends to see photos of tattooed ladies!

Sickdays kind of suck because I am home all day and don't have to work, but pretty much have no energy to . . . say, draw. Bah, say to you. It seems to be going away pretty quickly, which is great; I'm back in the office, true, but it's Friday.

I picked up the first volume of Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol from the library (and returned The Dark Knight Returns at the same time). Eisner next, definitely. I'm boning up on the classics; a statement that seriously confused my father. Even better, it's the weekend of the Avatar finale and The Dark Knight. (I currently have no idea when/how I'm going to see the latter, but it will happen somehow.) Talk about things guaranteed to make a fangirl feel better.

(Now, if only MSI would come just a bit closer.)

Also, [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut is doing well in Georgia and is better at the language than anyone in her group. ♥

Aside from drawing and geeking out this weekend, I really need to try and learn this song (it's really easy, self), and a couple of others, because it would be nice if I could actually play along with the lovely boy who is trying to teach me stuff.

Oh god. So I'm listening to Gerard's SVA speech, and there is just so much ridiculous flailing going on over here. (And nodding. This guy, okay. He is so fucking inspiring. He makes me feel like I can do things, you know? I've had some serious periods of creative hopelessness over the last couple of years, but dammit, he's doing it and I can too. Not the same way, god no, but still.)

Maybe I can get some intelligent thoughts together on this later? I'm not sure. The combination of hero-in-my-field and most ridiculous celebrity crush ever makes Gerard Way someone I have a lot of difficulty discussing in any remotely objective fashion. I hope I regain some equilibrium eventually, though, because he kind of deserves something more than incoherent (if enthusiastic) squealing.

(Gerard, please never use a British accent again, it makes me want to die. "Oh, it's the Kracken." And he's a useless guy! Like Aquaman! Many tantalizing little tidbits about The Umbrella Academy. Also, random and not topical--it was a crappy audience question--but: out of anybody in history, living or dead, who would he choose to spend a day with? His wife. *dies and is dead*)
