(Aw, GeeWay, I missed your voice!) I very much enjoyed The Umbrella Academy adaptation on Netflix, I have to say. I mean, it certainly has some problems (pls stop fridging women, especially WOC, ugh), but having reread the comics last week, I really appreciated the additional depth the show gives pretty much every character. It sacrificed some of its delightful weirdness in the process (I missed the televator and the evil Eiffel Tower, although the latter at least got a mention), but I think it was, on the whole, a fair exchange. Especially for the developed relationship between Allison and Vanya, because I'm predictable.

[community profile] chocolateboxcomm reveals are up today! I drew two things!

it's all been done (Good Omens, Crowley/Aziraphale, G) is an exploration of Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship (more gen than not, tbh) through the ages, something I've wanted to take a crack at forever. And titled after the BNL song, of course. (God, I hope someone vids the new Amazon miniseries to that song.) It was really marvelous to revisit the characters after such a long time, too! I'm rather pleased with how my Aziraphale design has developed.

binding spell (BtVS, Willow/Tara, G) is a surprisingly SFW shibari-themed illustration of Willow and Tara performing a steamy/romantic spell together, because of course. Aw, nostalgia. <3

I have utterly failed to read any of the fic yet, which is ridiculous, although to be fair I've been quite busy. Taxes, family drama, work drama, blah. But my person will finally, finally be back from Europe tomorrow night, so really, nothing can keep me down for long. And then when they head off for another month after only a week's stay, I'll have the archive waiting to comfort me.

BAM
Holiday reveals post! (Does this feel spammy to you? Last New Years-y item, I swear.)

So this year for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I wrote Turn, a Gunnerkrigg Court fic. [personal profile] nextian requested Kat/Annie, which happened to be exactly what I'd been hoping to write. :D I had a lot of fun reviewing the comic, and trying to invent some new crazy Forest stuff that fit with the occasion, without interfering too much with any of the unsolved mysteries in canon. I am . . . not the most dynamic ficcer ever? But I'm pretty happy, overall, with how this came out.

And since [livejournal.com profile] yuletart reveals are today, here's my contribution: a Middleman/Umbrella Academy fancomic. [livejournal.com profile] bluelittlepig and I matched on four fandoms, so it was a little hard to pick. ;) I went with this combination because I love wacky fanart crossovers, and because there is no Middleman fanart out there. I'm super proud of the piece: I spent two solid weeks on it! (So much Photoshop, oh my god. I barely noticed the bus crawling home at half-speed, the day before Thanksgiving.) I think I may need to start reigning in the background detail a bit, though; that large panel is kind of, er, cluttered.

I had some awesome fannish holidays . . . I'll think of them fondly while I'm wallowing through admissions season at work. /o\ I'm going to try and get those [livejournal.com profile] yuletart recs up tonight, but you should really go poke through the whole comm if you get the chance. What an amazing year.

Way to go, Gerard. ♥ An Eisner on his first try! I can't wait for more SDCC news. (I'm sad to be missing it, as always. One day I will go!)

I haven't watched this little interview yet, but the screencaps are adorable. Oh Gerard, you fit in very well with your (other) profession.

Going out with some friends to see photos of tattooed ladies!

Despite the fact that I am having my worst sleep week in a long time (which is, um, impressive; I haven't had a good one in . . . months), life is seriously awesome right now.

I don't even know where to start! Mostly cooking and COMICS! )

There are other things, too . . . my guitar classes are so much fun, the MCR shirt I didn't buy at MSG is available on their merch website now, I have a three-day weekend to draw in (and my brother might visit!), Doctor Who is insane, Avatar is coming back soon, and oh yeah, I'm seeing the Hushies in just under a week! ♥ ♥ ♥

So to spread a bit of joy (because apparently it's More Joy Day? I thought that was in January? not that I wouldn't want to spread joy anyway), thought I'd share some of the stuff I've drawn recently. (This is because I'm too damn slow to draw something specially for today, alas.) I've pretty much just been messing around trying to learn how to draw some of the bandguys, so it's nothing polished, but what the heck. :D

Usual disclaimer: these interpretations are not intended as anything other than fiction for my own harmless enjoyment, and the only intended audience is other fans. Etc. If you're famous, you might want to rethink googling yourself.

First up is a bit of Frank/Gerard, drawn on request for someone nifty. Just some quick-ish doodles with flat color stuck on, but I'm feeling pretty okay about them.

The proper use for a necktie! )

Also, there's this. I was doing a pageful of Gerard doodles on the commuter rail a couple weekends back, just trying to get a feel for him (I'm still working on that). The profile view that I was messing with turned into him drawing . . . and from there, him drawing on Mikey. ^^; [ETA:] I'm sorry, but I've needed to remove this picture for personal reasons. Thanks to everyone who commented on it, here and elsewhere.

And because those are actually weirdly similar pieces (I swear, something other than from-the-chest-up profile view next time), here's some original art as well, just to mix it up. (It's slightly topical, if you look closely!) This was part of something I drew as a parting gift for [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut.

Joined at the hip. )

That's all for now . . . I'm still producing much less than I'd like, but I'm working on that! And I'll try to draw something other than bandom art soon, just for a change: say, Avatar? ;)
