Hey, just in case anyone's wondering--particularly the other [livejournal.com profile] fandom_of_one mods--I'm a bit behind on fannish things right now, but I'm trying to catch up.

I've just been hired for a great job, after a miserable six months of intermittent temping and searching. It's making things extra-crazy, though . . . on top of my holiday exchanges, family stuff, and current stressful temp position, I have to find someplace to live in Boston by the end of the month. So yeah. It's a lot to do.

I will be trying to get [livejournal.com profile] fandom_of_one up and running this week, though, so that even if I have to vanish a little, that'll be set. Sorry for the delay!

Whew. That's enough night-before-Thanksgiving cooking for me. While getting my dirty dishes straightened up a bit, I somehow managed to splash the double window above the sink, all the items on the windowsill, a cabinet to the left, and the watering can off to the right . . . with ginger-carrot bisque. Tasty, but ack.

I'm really excited about [livejournal.com profile] fandom_of_one. People are joining it, and having ideas, and eee. Should be so fun; I can hardly wait 'til after Christmas now. Well. Almost ^^

Incidentally, this is a community that might appeal to the more quietly fannish out there (I look at the flist old guard, of sorts) . . . you don't have to be a fic-writer or a fanartist or any such thing to contribute. All you need to be is a fan of something other than one of the more popular fandoms. (Who doesn't love some random book or film, and possibly wish there were fic/fannish interaction for it?) All you have to do is talk enthusiastically about something you love. And people will recommend awesome books, movies, comics, etc! So you might wanna check it out. I'm just sayin'. ;)

I can think of about a half a dozen overviews I'd like to write myself, right off the bat. (Mostly comics, of course.) It'll be so easy and a bit of a relief, even, after [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.

Still a bit panicky about that last, but all things considered, things are going rather well.

Just to get all this onto one page . . .

I had an idea yesterday (in the comments of this post), and a few people seemed to like it: I thought it would be neat to create a community in which people could pimp out small fandoms. (I was specifically thinking of the fandoms nominated for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, though any tiny fandom could work.)

Posts in the community would work a bit like overview posts on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, or like posts on [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto. One person would write a post for the fandom, summarizing the canon, introducing the major characters, and talking a bit about it from a fannish perspective (the sorts of fic she writes/wants, the pairings that appeal and why, etc).

I think we'd allow other people to continue to add to the post in the comments (for as long as they liked): other opinions, pairings, points, and even fic recs and resources. There would be a post with a masterlist of all fandoms so far, permanently at the top. Possibly organized by medium? (As in [livejournal.com profile] yuletide: movies, tv, books, comics, video games, etc.)

[livejournal.com profile] franzeska suggested the name [livejournal.com profile] fandom_of_one, which I thought was cute. [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn pointed out that there are other comms we could affiliate with besides [livejournal.com profile] yuletide (I hadn't heard of [livejournal.com profile] smallfandomfest before, check it out).

Now, I think it might be a good idea to get this thing set up and then sit on it until after December 25 at least. Right now, people are busy stressing out over their holiday exchanges (I know I am). Once the crunchtime is over, though, and the fic starts flowing, I think there will be a lot more energy and enthusiasm to be had (goodness knows, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide people are always bubbling over with ideas and excitement once the archive opens). So the last week of December (or even the first week of January?), I could start advertising the comm on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and anywhere else folks might think of.

I'm going to need some help, though. I've never really done anything like this before. ^^; Maybe I should post on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide looking for interested people? There were several enthusiastic-seeming people in the comment thread, but my flist doesn't have a high fandom-active content (I'm such a lurker myself, normally).

Here's something I'm stuck on, also: how would people be assigned/claim fandoms to write up? I think it's best to keep each fandom to one post, so it won't get confusing. Since the sky's the limit when it comes to small fandoms, it's not as though I/the comm can create a list in advance. I guess I'd have to open up a period for people to email me with fandoms they want to write, first come first serve? Something like that?

Thoughts, input, willingness to collaborate . . . all would be welcome.

[ETA:] I've started to set up [livejournal.com profile] fandom_of_one. It looks very thrown-together right now, but it's a start. There's a brainstorming post, and I really need some contribution and discussion, if you'd be willing. :)
