I think I'm going to try and take advantage of my ongoing school break to try out the [community profile] snowflake_challenge again.

Day 1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I sort of feel as though I should be focusing on things I made in the last year this time, but ... well, there hasn't been that much, sadly, between all the non-fannish creation and the times when I had no energy at all. So instead I'm just going to try and go for varied and different, I guess? Porn, podfic and playing catch ...

First foray into erotica: 1920s kinky photoshoot pinup series. (bandom; Greta/Victoria; NSFW)
I've wanted to learn to draw erotic art and comics for just about as long as I've been seriously drawing at all, but it's awfully challenging! I mean, quite apart from how much of a challenge it is to just make bodies interact on the page, there's something deeply elusive about an "erotic" quality that escapes a lot of beginning artists (myself included) who are just drawing naked people. I've taken a stab at this a number of times over the years, but this little semi-story-in-pictures, co-brainstormed with and encouraged by [personal profile] were_duck, is the first time I've felt successful. The period costuming, hairstyles and accessories were really fun to play with, too!

Stretching out in REALLY new directions: Unedited, never-posted podfic of Gerard Way's (Vampire) Detective Agency Outtake #3: The Governor's Desk, by [personal profile] jjtaylor (bandom; Lindsey/Jamia; Mature)
This isn't just a fanwork I feel nobody ever saw; in fact, nobody did (well, one other person). A little over a year ago I messed around with Garageband on a complete whim. It's extremely rough; all recorded more or less at once and completely unedited. I'd want to learn to do that, and practice a good deal more, before I'd officially post any podfic ... and I really don't have time to figure that out right now. I do think that, after I graduate, it might be a fun project; and even though this is kind of a mess, I had all kinds of fun doing it. But for now, bear with me if you listen (and I'll try not to get embarrassed and delete it).

The circle of fannish inspiration: I did first a doodle and then a more involved illustration of Killjoys!verse Fall Out Boy/Black Cards characters; [personal profile] jjtaylor wrote fic to go with them, and then I came back and illustrated the fic! (bandom; Pete/Patrick)
Something that fandom has really given me, in recent years, is an increasing enthusiasm for collaboration; something I used to be kind of terrified of. I've become more and more excited about illustrating directly from other peoples' works, and in recent years, wanted to try flipping the process. I've been thrilled with the rise of Reverse Bangs! But this, so far, has been the coolest little chain of fanwork creation I've been involved with, especially nifty because of how spontaneous it was. Getting to put in the first framework for worldbuilding, only to see it expanded on by an amazing writer ... and then going back and playing with her ideas in my turn! It's this kind of interactive creativity that I'd really like to carry with me out into my public career, and continue celebrating in fandom as much as I can. <3

Hah, okay, time to go draw more things I think. Happy New Year, bbs!
