Hrm, I am several days behind on [community profile] snowflake_challenge! Need to catch up. The thing is, Day 8 was about setting fannish goals, and ... I don't feel like I can do that right now. I mean, I suppose I could set a goal for the summer, but I think it's better if I don't even think about it. Thesis.

Day 9, on the other hand, was awesome ... it just took me two days to complete: In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something. I drew some fanart! Inspired by someone's Day 4 wishlist, because I love the whole circle of fannish gift-giving. So [personal profile] mammothluv wished for
"crossover fanworks of any of my favorite ladies." We seem to have a fair number of favorite ladies in common, so that took a bit of narrowing down ...

Renee Montoya teams up with yet another Kate. )

Day 10's challenge--rec a creator--is also awesome, and I want to do it justice! I may post again later today. Right now there are things I need to get moving on. I have the day off (breaktime work schedule is kind of nice), and I think I'm going to hop the free commuter bus a couple towns over and work in a cafe with fewer distractions. There is never, never enough time!

Still, David Bowie announced this week that he's putting out a new album in March. There are always, always things to look forward to, jfc.

Good morning bbs. (This posting every day thing is kind of strange.) I am back at work, and a little twitchy! However, yesterday I performed kind of an amazing transformation on my messy little apartment, and I am feeling badass as a result. My roommate will not know what hit the place when she gets back.

So [community profile] snowflake_challenge Day 7 is ... well, a bit of a challenge for me. In your own space, share something non-fannish about yourself. A passion or a hobby or a talent, something that people might not know about you. We are more than just our fandoms.

See, the thing is, I'm pretty sure you guys already know what my grand passion is outside of fandom, because it's linked to what I do in fandom as well. I suppose that I tend to do more illustration for other peoples' stories around these parts, while in the rest of my life I'm invested in being a storyteller myself ... but I've made comics here. I'm a cartoonist in both spheres. Also I talk about it constantly!

And fandom is, as I've said for years, basically my favorite hobby. I guess the other ones that sort of stand out would be ... cooking and singing. (And possibly theology, but I'm actually a little rusty there.) Let's go with cooking, then. )

Um, jfc, herds of teal deer. Here, have a few of my favorite recipes! )

Actually, speaking of recipes ... my mother agreed to lend me her crockpot for the rest of the school year. I've never used one before, but I'm hoping it will help me find a balance between my work and healthy eating! Does anyone have a vegetarian crockpot recipe or two they'd like to recommend? :D?

Also, oh man. Definitely lunchtime.

I clearly stayed home a little too long this time, because being back in Vermont is deeply surreal right now. It's so empty here (more than usual, with most of my classmates away). However, I have the apartment to myself (time for ALL THE CLEANING) and two more weeks without classes to keep mixing fannish things with my work schedule.

So hey, [community profile] snowflake_challenge Day 6: [i]n your own space, pimp three comms or challenges and explain why you love them.

Three fabulous comms plus reverse bang love! )

Ugh, I love fandom. I am never leaving, at least not for good.

On another note, can I just say that the locked poll I posted yesterday has really not been going the way I more or less expected? (Honestly, any outcome would have made me love my circle, but ... yeah. <3) I'm still waffling a little, though, so feel free to pop over and try to sway me if you haven't yet (ahem).

[community profile] snowflake_challenge Day 4! This one is kind of adorable, you guys. I am surfing through the comments of the post trying to find wishes to fulfill while I still have some time. Although meanwhile, I feel extremely awkward for asking for things myself. I've tried to keep them small ... ish?

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

1. I'd really love some Teen Wolf f/f fic (short is fine!) or art: Allison/Lydia or Allison/Erica, preferably incorporating badass team-ups (I'm in favor of these also including the third lady, or if it's Allison/Lydia, Stiles for awesome human times). I always crave more f/f that's not uber-fluffy (although I'm also not a big fan of hate!sex type stuff, generally).

2. Long, plotty podfic recs would be awesome. In lots of fandoms, really.* Also good audiobook recs, especially (but not exclusively) if they're available somewhere for free!

3. You know what I love? SILLY fanart/comics. So much. Jokes and cracked-out fusions and the like! Want to draw something silly in one of my fandoms? (Biggest ones at present include Teen Wolf, bandom - MCR, FOB and anything involving Greta, Star Trek: AOS, Elementary, Community, Warehouse 13 - mostly the ladies and Steve, Vecchio-inclusive Due South, pan-DCU with a few specific favorite characters, Farscape ... um, but really I like a lot of things!)

Okay, I'm just going to put this one down as a bonus, pie-in-the-sky kind of deal, because it's kind of a big undertaking and I feel a little weird about it. But if someone wanted to podfic [personal profile] tuesdaysgone's Killjoysverse series (with her permission, of course) I would basically be over the moon.

Also, so, I've seen a lot of talk about transformative works policies and blanket permissions in the last couple of days especially, which I think is generally awesome, and I would like to encourage the hell out of it. But I've never really considered doing one myself, because IDK, people don't transform fanart all that often? Although I have had someone write fic based on my art, once outside of a challenge, even. It's not, in my experience, a particularly common occurrence, but maybe a policy wouldn't be completely pointless?

Anyway it is my last day here in my hometown before I head back North and attempt to have much more of a thesis work ethic. I'm drawing fanart and my tie matches my hair (which is green), and I just bought a pair of earmuffs with silver sequins on the band (on sale). Things are pretty great! How are you, m'loves?

Second day of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge, and bah, I'm already late. I got kind of distracted today with reading Hallucinations, by Oliver Sacks. (Graphic novel research! Eeee.) And rewatching some of Downton Abbey Season 2 with my mother.

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

I spent the latter half of the year devouring Teen Wolf fic, which um, could hardly be considered rare or lesser known in the slightest. But I really wanted to try and rec some things that are a little more out of the way! So that was my approach here. That and podfic, because that has been my primary mode of fannish intake this year. Podfic has gotten me through so many hours of toiling away at comic pages, it's untrue. Have some appreciation!

A tiny fandom, a marvelous threesome, gen bffs of my heart, and a bonus vid )

I have a lot of feelings about fanwork, you guys. Also, it's so time for bed. G'night!

I think I'm going to try and take advantage of my ongoing school break to try out the [community profile] snowflake_challenge again.

Day 1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I sort of feel as though I should be focusing on things I made in the last year this time, but ... well, there hasn't been that much, sadly, between all the non-fannish creation and the times when I had no energy at all. So instead I'm just going to try and go for varied and different, I guess? Porn, podfic and playing catch ...

New artistic directions, new media, collaborative efforts ... )

Hah, okay, time to go draw more things I think. Happy New Year, bbs!

Hey, kids. So I've been busy the last few days with family and traveling back north and stuff. I'm finding myself instantly inclined to curl up into a ball of sleeping and reading and not talking to anyone more than absolutely necessary, and I really want to nip that in the bud. I would like for the second half of my vacation to be social and productive! So here, I will do the first three days of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge at once, for a start. :)

Day One: Self-Recs.
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.

Three things I made. )

Day Two: Reccing others
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

Three things other people made! )

Day Three:
Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

I ... have been meaning, as a general rule, to try and spend part of my time this month actually leaving people comments and feedback for the various fanworks I've been enjoying lately. So I made a start on that, of sorts? I am very awkward, but considering how intensely reclusive I'm feeling today, I'm glad I did.

This is really kind of a neat challenge, you guys; I like the idea of kicking off the new year by showing some appreciation for my community.
