reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (comics - oppression - alone)

It's just one uproar after another in fandom this week. First this debacle (which I'd have posted about, but thought it was a better time for listening), and now strikethrough all over again.

I really don't want to move. Aside from the recent obvious, I really like livejournal; it's familiar and easy to use, and we're all so centralized here. I can't really see any prospect for this wholesale fandom exodus people keep talking about. We'll just scatter, and it'll take ages for a new system to really get built up.

I expect that, should people or communities I love leave, I'll follow them. I'll probably stay here as well . . . we'll see. (I have deleted the one post I had with Kim Possible smut-art on it. Doubt it would have been a problem, but I didn't like the pictures much anyway.)

Not that I'm really likely to ever finish these, but here's a small handful of snippets from old WiPs (all at least a year or two old), for your amusement (in accordance with the meme that's been going around). Does not include any of the "WiPs" I have lying around that are just a title and maybe a couple of bullet-point notes.

Elfquest

The one where Skywise is alone in the Palace . . . and not.

The crystal halls echo with emptiness, no organic motion visible in the vast network of hallways. The Scroll chamber is utterly still. Outside, billions of sparkling lights whip past, almost faster than thought.

He closes his eyes and lets his mind drift loose from its moorings. Reaches blindly.

Something brushes against his thoughts, fleeting and impossibly warm.

Labyrinth

The epic one where Sarah goes back to find herself.

No, Sarah had no desire to be like her mother. She was focused on reality, comforting and solid, not the world of intrigue and glamour that Linda inhabited. It was a world as fragile as a soap bubble, and while she admired her mother for her ability to maintain such an existence, she knew that her own bubbles had a knack for bursting.

She was drifting again. She reined herself in, staring at the white ceiling until its blankness spread itself through her being. Then, she slept. Later, she recalled her dreams only faintly. In them, the moon rose high in the night sky, round and translucent as a crystal ball. She felt on her face the breeze of silent wingbeats passing close-by.

Peter Pan

The one which is exactly that sort of “discovering ourselves” mushy femslash that I complain about.

Wendy can’t be what her aunt wants, nor Peter. She is neither a lady nor a boy with benefits, and therefore is in rather a muddle. The reasons are not clear to her now, as she sinks down to the forest floor in the wake of Peter’s baffled retreat—-her knees seeming to fold of their own accord-—but the conclusion is inescapable. Wendy is not what she is.

X-Men

The silly one where Rachel Summers is basically Jesus.

And the Phoenix Force came unto Jean Grey, and she was with child. After the ninth month, she gave birth to her firstborn daughter. She wrapped her in swaddling clothes and laid her in a bassinet in the X-Mansion's laboratory, for there was no room in their apartment thanks to all of Scott’s angst.

My stories are all kind of . . . stiff. Not very organic at all. I'm so much better at writing partly in pictures. (Which I am fortunately doing more of, in other spheres.) Which is why I will soon be bringing you something better . . . a massively updated recs-page. My laptop has to be fixed first, though.

No, I like LJ's structure too. :< I've been here for six years and I like being notified of all the people I'm interested in whenever they post. So much better than the old mailing lists!

Yeah, I really don't miss the days of mailing lists and message boards. *sigh* There were so many different things to keep track of.

Well, keeping my fingers crossed that this mess will blow over.
