Hello from my air-conditioned cave, friends ...

I've been dabbling in various new exchanges this year! Mainly, there's been a run of racy art, which is always a lot of fun to do.

Links to variably naughty f/f drawings in Buffy, Utena, and Original Works )

I'm especially proud of myself, however, for the one bit of writing I did ... the first time I've written fanfic (of a sort) outside of Yuletide in fifteen years or so.

une sororité sanglante (gen, M)
An adaptation of La Barbe Bleue, by Charles Perreault (this version!), for [community profile] once_upon_fic. Written for [archiveofourown.org profile] Missy.
The letter arrives unexpectedly on the second day of her new husband's abrupt departure (urgent business, he'd said, unavoidable), addressed to her married name, and dated five years previous. The contents turn her world upside-down.

... you shall go back, and take your place among the ladies you saw there. )

What was the old maxim - three things make a post? Taking art and fic each as a "thing," my last is short and sweet: of course there's going to be a second season of the Good Omens show, and of course I'm feeling something between disgruntled and indifferent about it. I could certainly be surprised, but ugh. It's one of my favorite books, and the show already gets too dark and full Gaiman for me in places, you know? I suppose we'll see.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled occasional Dear Creator letters, though maybe I'll manage to write an entry that's a bit more substantial and present again in the near future. Who knows? We can hope that the brain fog won't last forever. And at some point I may feel inclined to blather about The Magnus Archives (which I did finally listen to).

Happy New Year, friends. And happy Yuletide reveals. :)

This was clearly not going to be the year when I could pull off more than one fic (potentially next round’s goal? life things depending anyway), but I did receive what was very much the prompt of my heart. I did my best to do well by it:

refraction and recombination, for [personal profile] halfeatenmoon
Wayfarers Series - Becky Chambers (specifically the second book, A Closed and Common Orbit)
Sidra/Tak, Teen & Up, 8,858 words
Summary: Tak takes Sidra to a different kind of party, Sidra dabbles in Aeluon color language, and her sensory analogues might be trying to tell her something.

Herein lies a ramble. )

Man, that was fun. I’m so glad [community profile] chocolateboxcomm exists so I don’t immediately go into fandom withdrawal. I have plans this year that preclude much fannish participation for a lot of it, probably, but this should be a good easing off.

Instead of just doing a holiday exchange roundup post, I'm doing one for my whole fannish year. 2007 wasn't terribly productive for me, but what the heck. (Also, this is almost entirely fanart, with just the one piece of fanfiction for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.)

I was going to wait for the [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange reveal, but it's still not up and I'm impatient. Anyway, anyone who is the least bit familiar with my art would recognize my piece in a second.

My fannish year in review: )

Well, that's that. Although, the holiday exchanges aren't over quite yet: [livejournal.com profile] yuletart just started posting today, and new fanart will be going up all month! Check it out, it's sure to be fantastic. I'm already the recipient of a rather lovely gift, and I can't wait to see what else the challenge has in store.

As for this year, I want to do more fanart. (For one thing, I must draw something Avatar-related! Gah!) Unfortunately, I won't have anything new for a bit (maybe a month or so), as I'd like to earn a few paychecks before purchasing a new copy of Photoshop (thank goodness for my dad's academic discount, also).

I'm having a bit of a fresh start this year, what with a new job in a new city. Maybe I'll add to that by making this the first year I write for the New Year's Resolution challenge as well. ;)

It's just one uproar after another in fandom this week. First this debacle (which I'd have posted about, but thought it was a better time for listening), and now strikethrough all over again.

I really don't want to move. Aside from the recent obvious, I really like livejournal; it's familiar and easy to use, and we're all so centralized here. I can't really see any prospect for this wholesale fandom exodus people keep talking about. We'll just scatter, and it'll take ages for a new system to really get built up.

I expect that, should people or communities I love leave, I'll follow them. I'll probably stay here as well . . . we'll see. (I have deleted the one post I had with Kim Possible smut-art on it. Doubt it would have been a problem, but I didn't like the pictures much anyway.)

Not that I'm really likely to ever finish these, but here's a small handful of snippets from old WiPs (all at least a year or two old), for your amusement (in accordance with the meme that's been going around). Does not include any of the "WiPs" I have lying around that are just a title and maybe a couple of bullet-point notes.

Elfquest

The one where Skywise is alone in the Palace . . . and not. )

Labyrinth

The epic one where Sarah goes back to find herself )

Peter Pan

The one which is exactly that sort of “discovering ourselves” mushy femslash that I complain about. )

X-Men

The silly one where Rachel Summers is basically Jesus. )

My stories are all kind of . . . stiff. Not very organic at all. I'm so much better at writing partly in pictures. (Which I am fortunately doing more of, in other spheres.) Which is why I will soon be bringing you something better . . . a massively updated recs-page. My laptop has to be fixed first, though.

(Does anyone know why Firefox hates LJ lately? That was annoying.)

Happy 2007, everyone! It’s the day of revelation for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, and now that I’m allowed to be public about my contributions, I thought I’d talk about them a little.

(Oops, I almost slipped up! Turns out [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange's reveal is tomorrow . . . I think? So I'll be able to post my picture then.)

This was the fourth [livejournal.com profile] yuletide (and I've participated in each one, yay). And, for the first time, I wrote two stories: my original assignment and a “stocking stuffer." They’re about as different from each other as I can imagine, too: the former lengthy, PG-rated gen, and the latter short, explicit femslash.

The Raven of Portobello Road

The Adventures of Tintin
general cast, PG, gen

Life Like Fallin' Down
for [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut
Empire Records
Deb/Gina, NC-17, femslash
Request: smut
Liner notes )

What a fantastic year for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. I stretched my boundaries, wrote more in a few days than I've done in most years, recieved a beautiful fairy tale with my own name on it, and will probably be in fic (to read) for the rest of the year. I feel really pumped, so maybe I'll finally keep my annual resolution to contribute to the NYR challenge.

Thanks so much, [livejournal.com profile] keswindhover and [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut, for your fun and challenging requests, and so much love to [livejournal.com profile] moonsheen, who filled a request I've been hoping for dearly for the past two years. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did! Cheers. :)
