[livejournal.com profile] theopteryx has been running a highly enjoyable art meme, so I pretty much couldn't resist making a contribution. :D

a Black Parade Mary Sue )

Anyway, there are kickass, super creative contributions throughout the comments on the meme post, so you should really go check them all out. ♥

At some point soon I have to poll you folks about your journaling habits, as I still have to make some choices about what I'm doing with all this. (Crossposting test, check!) Meanwhile, though, I am all sleepy (I was up stupidly late having this rambling discussion about the British Empire and philosophy and gods know what else with my roomie last night). I have to try and whip a stir-fry together, and maybe watch some more Star Trek (Original Series). Taking my mom to the movie for Mother's Day, wheee.

Happy spring, flist! It's not quite warm out yet, but it's getting there, and I saw my first local crocuses today. ♥ I feel so much better; I never realize quite how cranky winter was making me until it starts going away.

I was planning on writing some kind of big, thorough Watchmen review, but I can't seem to get into it, so nevermind. :) Basically, I would have done the whole feel of the film differently (grittier, more visceral violence rather than Matrix-style special effects; I thought the shiny was all wrong for the story even though I was expecting it). For what it was, it did a decent job, but I realized that . . . I didn't really want there to be a Watchmen movie, after all. I don't think we need to make movies out of every good book; it didn't bring anything new to the story, and it took all kinds of things away.

I did love the opening credits, though. *_* And there were other bits and pieces, but probably not enough to make me want to watch it again.

Speaking of comics, I just dumped most of the superhero titles off my pull list (except for Runaways and Wonder Woman, I think). I've just gotten bored with most of the stories they're telling these days, they seem more and more generic. :/ I need some new stuff to read, too; a lot of my indie titles come out very irregularly. I haven't had anything new the last two Wednesdays in a row, which makes me sad.

Fanart things have been really stalled lately (while I draw really lame autobiographical nonsense, no less), but I am determined to jumpstart that this weekend. I have been listening to TBP nonstop for the last few days, and getting ridiculously excited about BBB ([livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor will keep on tantalizing me). And Pete's fourth wall shenanigans! I can't believe I've already been in this fandom for almost a year; I love it so much. ♥

001. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
002. I will respond by asking you ANY five questions of a very intimate and creepily personal nature. Or not so creepy/personal.
003. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
004. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
005. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Work continues to be stressful and crazy, well past the point where I believed this crap would be done with, and I feel bad because it's somewhat hampering on a social level. I feel like a cavedweller a lot of the time lately; I don't see much of friends beyond my roomies (lovely though they are). However, we've scheduled the last admissions committee meeting for Friday the 20th, so that should be it. (Not a clean end; there's recruiting and open houses and all kinds of wrap-up, but that's all much more gradual.) AND there's a three-day weekend.

So I have a song meme to do at some point (with uploads!), but here I am being a little too lazy to pull out the pertinent cds, so here is a high school meme instead. )

Well, I'm sure that was fascinating. *g* Anyway, I also have this for you: little bit of artwork: Amanda Palmer & Greta Salpeter. )

I would try and wrap up this post, but my roomie went and Netflixed The Dark Knight and now I'm too distracted. ;)

I haven't done a meme in a very long time, so. When you see this, post your favorite poem.

I could make a book out of favorite poems I can't choose between, but when [livejournal.com profile] olivia_circe was looking for a quotation about snow yesterday, I thought of this one. And hey, it's snowing here today. (Wish I had a window.)

Snow

The room was suddenly rich and the great bay-window was
Spawning snow and pink roses against it
Soundlessly collateral and incompatible:
World is suddener than we fancy it.

World is crazier and more of it than we think,
Incorrigibly plural. I peel and portion
A tangerine and spit the pips and feel
The drunkenness of things being various.

And the fire flames with a bubbling sound for world
Is more spiteful and gay than one supposes -
On the tongue on the eyes on the ears in the palms of one's hands -
There is more than glass between the snow and the huge roses.

Whee. I finished my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart (and I'm pretty happy with it, too - can't wait to show you guys), so . . . now it's on to [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. And some kind of holiday card for everyone, even if it's only digital.

In spite of all the stress and endless to-do lists, I really do love this time of year. Even just on a visual level, to put it simply: I love sparkly things. Walking home nights surrounded by holiday light displays puts an extra spring in my step, and makes me want to sit up and draw all night long (which is probably why I'm so tired today). Now, if only it would snow.

Speaking of sparkly things, I took a break from all the cooking and drawing I did this weekend to go see this movie with [livejournal.com profile] hermionesviolin. (Thanks for the heads' up, [livejournal.com profile] phineasjones! ♥ I hope you get a chance too.) Fandom really ought to have a look at this: it's a gay fantasy musical . . . oh yeah, and it's full of Shakespeare. It's silly as all hell, but there is glitter and boykissing and pretty (if often lulzy) choreography, and of course, plenty of quoting and paraphrasing (and singing) the Bard. Might have to try and track it down on DVD.

Meanwhile, I don't think I dislike a single song on this album. There are a few where I think "ehhh, that's not so great," and then there's some particular line or musical passage that fills me with joy. Can't pick a favorite yet, either (though this song's definitely up there). I love all Fall Out Boys (and the guests aren't bad either).

Speaking also of warm fuzzies, here's my thread in the holiday anon love meme. I've never done one before, but you know, might as well try it. :)

Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing.
Post these instructions with your picture.

Ahaha, okay, it's time for bed.

Well, I was feeling plenty cranky today, but then I found my ticket to the Hush Sound concert (at the Middle East) waiting with the day's mail. \o/ So excited cannot wait. GRETA. And the internet! I am not going with anyone, technically, but I look forward to seeing people there.

So, have a meme! Picked up from [livejournal.com profile] carlanime; I guess she altered it slightly, but I'm using her version.

1. Leave me a comment asking me five questions. I will respond by answering, and by asking you five personal questions in turn so I can get to know you better.

2. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions. Include this explanation. When others comment, you will answer, and ask them five questions.

Comments will be screened . . . I'll unscreen them when I respond, unless there's something super-private involved (and you can feel free to request continued screening).

My answers to carlanime's questions: )

I am a bit daunted by the [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang fics; I have no idea where to begin! The obvious one would be [livejournal.com profile] bexless's--why hello there, my buttons--but I think I require some schmoop first. My emotional state is going to need extra propping-up for awhile. (On the way home from taking [livejournal.com profile] cilghal to the airport last night, just walking around outside Park Street gave me a pang because I went there with [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut a few times. I've been everywhere with her. There will be no constant panging! That's just silly.)
