My family's getting ready to head across state to visit my grandmother in her nursing home, rather than our usual cozy lingering over presents in our PJs. (My mother is worried about the weather tomorrow. IDK. It's a good thing to do anyway. :)) So I must be brief.

Merry Christmas, darling flisters, to those of you who celebrate it! (And to the rest of you - I hope you have a really awesome day. ♥)

Check out what I found in my stocking: Glories Stream, a delightfully sexy and irreverent look at Heaven, based on Dar Williams's "Alleluia." I am absolutely thrilled with it! The tags list alone almost made me crack up out loud (which would have caused awkward questions from my family) .

Also, I see that someone else has written for the same prompt I did, which is also exciting - it's a fandom/pairing that I'd really like to read, you know? :D Man, I can't wait to dive into the archive later, in general. Also, I need to catch up on my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart commenting. (Still can't get over the incredible quality and variety of the work there!)

Must dash. Love!

Some of my flist has been at war today (not in earnest, I think? lol broken troll detector). I'm too lurkery and also a little too zonked out to have weighed in at all, though I was definitely giggling inappropriately over it at work. But srsly, guys, can't we all just get ALONG? ;____; We should all unite to appreciate Ray Toro on the glorious day, um, after the day of his birth. (Wry is midnight?)

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] thelittlebang has just begun posting! Multifandom femslash fic and art for your perusing pleasure! :D I'll post my contribution--art for [livejournal.com profile] suaine's nifty Gwen/Morgana futurefic--after the story goes up (and link it then).

Now that I've finished that (I can do deadlines! barely), I get to take a break and read the latest volume of From Eroica With Love, which CMX has apparently not dropped after all. \o/ And then I get to turn my attention to more ladies for [livejournal.com profile] bandgirlsbang, whee. It does feel good to be drawing women more (I never ever would have predicted that this would become a problem).

Also, is it weird that the "Be A Man" sequence in Mulan invariably makes me tear up a little? IDEK.

I've posted a poll on my LJ to try and gauge what everyone is/wants to be doing with their Dreamwidth accounts. I decided against crossposting because a fair chunk of my flist is still mostly LJ-based. If you're DW-centric, though, I'd appreciate your input over there as well. :)

As for me, I think I'll be crossposting for the forseeable future, although I think I may start maintaining permanent (sticky?) posts for fanart links and recs at Dreamwidth only, if I do wind up getting rid of my website. I'm undecided on the primary journal issue.

Really should be working on my BBB about now.

I shoveled myself out and waded to the T first thing this morning, and somehow in spite of this weather I still managed to get to work early. Why are we not closed like most of the sane institutions around Boston today? And furthermore, why is it freezing cold in my office? I am all wet! >:(

Urgh. I had a fantastic weekend, though; I went home to the Valley and saw a [livejournal.com profile] guinsky and a [livejournal.com profile] fuschia (and I would have seen a [livejournal.com profile] book_of_calm if I were not apparently the most oblivious person ever; I am really sorry about that, bb). Also there was entertaining student opera, and introducing my parents to Slings and Arrows (which I've recently fallen in love with, myself).

Oh well, it is March! That is technically progress, even if it doesn't look like it right now. Maybe I will leave early today, if that is feasible at all, so I can curl up with my sketchbook and hot chocolate and enjoy some late winter coziness. (A mentor type figure once told me that winter is cartooning season.)

My mother sent me the most hilarious email this afternoon, entitled "I need art!!!!!"

I need some of your newer art to post in my office. Where can I download online and print to office color printer! Need now!! Need, need, need—arghhhh!

WTF, how is she so adorable (and kind of nuts)? ♥ (I really ought to draw something suitable for public consumption this year.)

On a mostly different note, you should all IMMEDIATELY go check out [livejournal.com profile] guinsky's Unholyverse fanart here. It's beautiful, and the level of detail is absolutely astonishing, and she is generally kind of my favorite. SO. :D

Made this as part of a birthday card for my ~other half, [livejournal.com profile] sweetvalleyslut:

I miss herrr. :( Anyway, yeah, more art with no backgrounds! There will be art with backgrounds eventually, I swear.

So last week I read The Old Straight Track by [livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor, in which Frank is a ghost and Gerard is his apartment's next occupant. There are hauntings and seances and metaphors and pining. Highly recommended, though beware the abrupt ending (she's working on the sequel :DDDD).

I love that fic, man.

Also, it was [livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor's birthday last week! So I drew this: Frank/Gerard, completely SFW )

All I have done this weekend is sit on my bed and draw MCR. (Well, practically.) I suppose I shouldn't do that.

Also, I have developed a stupid craving for obscenely sugary cereal (something I pretty much never eat). Damn you, Gerard Way! Pegwarming. I will never get tired of this fandom.

(This week I keep getting intrusive, personal IMs from people whose SNs I do not recognize. WTF?)
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (yuletide - holiday exchanges - stress)
Running around like a chicken with my head cut off, here.

So I'm off tomorrow; my parents and I are flying to Frankfurt (weather allowing, yikes) and taking a bus from there to reach my brother in Strasbourg. We'll be staying there over Christmas, heading to Paris through New Year's, and then Evan and I will head to London for another four and a half days. My family's first proper vacation ever, probably.

Anyway, so I was hoping to have a pretty holiday card for you all, but this month has been completely nuts, and I just haven't pulled it off. I will make it up to you artistically in the new year, promise. ♥

I most likely will have little to no internet access between now and January 6, so . . . here's wishing all of you a really fabulous holiday season. I love you guys; I've had a really difficult, transitional year, but you have been one of the brightest spots in it.

To my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange santa/goat type people . . . I may not get to thank you for your gifts until I get back, but please don't worry; I will. I really appreciate all the work you've put in (and my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart artist as well, of course).

See you all in the new year!
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (haaaaay - kinda creepy - :D? :D?)
I finally got my [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange piece in (one down, two to go), and now I'm at my parents' house trying to get Thanksgiving dinner ready before the guests arrive. (We usually don't have any, and we also usually wind up eating rather late, so it's a challenge.)

Whether it's the holiday or MCR a-twittering, I'm kind of feeling full of wellbeing right now, so I thought I'd share a couple of seasonal things with the flist.

First of all, if you don't already have it, Alice's Restaurant. (Ahaha. I was in Stockbridge this summer and there were all these people going to peer at the location of the restaurant. "That's where Alice lived!" "No no, she lived in a church - inside the bell tower!")

Secondly, here's the recipe for the soup I make every year: ginger-carrot bisque )

I got it out of a magazine years ago, but I really don't remember which one. Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to my countryfolks, and I hope the rest of you are having a lovely day also. ♥

I'm probably going to be posting a holiday card poll soon.

This day is just completely mad, and the noise of continuing renovations going on in my department just add to the surreality of it all. BRONX MOWGLI WENTZ. I do not even know.

(Oh Pete, why are you so thematically appropriate? Everything has been bears lately! I am going to have "The Bare Necessities" stuck in my head for a year, apparently.)

I realize it's a sign of my complete tumble into insanity, but I'm not sure I've felt more cheered up in my life. Things are so ridiculous and hilarious and I cannot deal, okay? Also, you guys have made me want to be drawing right now, so badly. ♥ IL all flist prompts. Clearly I should try this more often, if it doesn't make people too sad that I always fail to draw everything I want to.
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (Default)
I'm having a difficult time with my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart assignment; I'm really pleased with the fandom, etc, but having brainstorming issues. I think I might make a locked post later asking for prompting . . . in fact, I might go back to using a filter for talking about the details of my various holiday exchange projects. Is there anyone who would want to be left off that? I don't know if anyone is actually invested in being surprised/unspoiled about their flisters' exchange contributions (personally, I'm sort of fond of sneak peeks), but just in case.

Speaking of my flist, there's nothing like internet drama to take your mind off the real thing. Ugh, I'm so sorry, guys. No matter how bitchy bandflesh could be sometimes, I'm deeply unimpressed that someone put in that much effort to prove that s/he could do (much) worse.

The first comic I drew in almost a year was inspired by bandflesh.

I have a [livejournal.com profile] sae (♥!), so I'm all kinds of busy this week with arboretums and cafes and trips to Salem and lots of drawing. But, in case any fanartists out there have missed it and might be interested: [livejournal.com profile] yuletart sign-ups end tonight (midnight PST)! Go go go, it's going to be seriously awesome. :D

Rockthevote and the Obama campaign mailing list need to stop making me freak out about voter registration. I voted in the primaries after I moved here, and I totally called Somerville's election office to confirm that I'm properly registered, a whole month ago. I am not still registered in Western MA. Info is out of date. >:( Also, must remember to buy extra booze for debate-watching gathering tonight.

Life continues to distract me away from fandom lately! I've been lingering around the edges, so I've caught all the exciting Fall Out Boy material (oh fandom, where is all the Pete/Patrick/Ashlee? ♥), but between the presidential debates and family/[livejournal.com profile] penguinkye visits, distracting reading material (Perdido Street Station and a whole lot of blog coverage of the Minx imprint cancellation), and creating fictional band merch, I've been pretty gone. But!

There are nearly eighty sign-ups at [livejournal.com profile] yuletart right now, and we have a week to go. That is amazing. :D We seem to be skewing pretty heavily towards anime fandoms, which really isn't all that surprising, but there's a fair amount of variety in there. And it looks like we're practically guaranteed some Avatar art, whee. (Conversation over in [livejournal.com profile] glockgal's journal has me pondering the ending of the show again. Also pairings, so many pairings!)

Randomly (and belatedly), I'm getting kind of excited about Razia's Shadow. I hadn't really heard of Forgive Durden before (I'm thinking I should check out some of their older music?), but I love concept albums and musicals, and this one sounds intriguing. Also, anything that features Greta . . . (You can hear one whole preview track here, briefly featuring Brendon. Click on "Forgive Durden - The Exit," under "Exclusive Streams.")

Am feeling strangely torn between my love of October and my highly unusual impatience for November, though if the election goes the way I don't want, I might regret the latter. (At least I'll have good comics and music to console me.) Meanwhile, I have a [livejournal.com profile] sae starting on Friday! Comics and holiday-times will abound (and I'll probably be pretty scarce for awhile). :D

I'm off in the Valley visiting my family again this weekend (and probably next), since my little brother leaves for France on the 9th. (I'll see him off at the airport . . . and then, Leathermouth. That will be entertaining.) There's probably not a lot of internet time in my future for a little while.

To those of you who are potentially in the path of a hurricane right now: stay safe, okay? :/ I'm thinking of you. ♥
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (sleepy - snuggles - good dreams)
Pete Wentz, I love your face, but I am way too tired for any more of these viral marketing shenanigans. (I see that cfob and all those various myspaces have been updated again, with further crypticness.) Please to be getting to 60xxx already.

Had a fantastic time at the Hush/Cab show last night! The Cab were kind of adorable, though their music isn't really my thing. Cash was totally subtle with his flashing of the CFOB address, someone in the audience apparently wanted to fight Singer, and after a bout of shredding from Ian, [livejournal.com profile] greendreaming leaned over and whispered "Bauer Toro!" *g* Steel Train was fun (I should really get my hands on some of their music), and the Hushies were fucking fantastic, as always. [livejournal.com profile] fuschia, [livejournal.com profile] greendreaming and I spent the opening acts hanging out in the 21+ area, but we came down to the floor and danced like crazy people during the Hush Sound's set. ♥ I hope someone puts a better version of the Obama song up on youtube at some point, because that was amaaaazing.

I definitely approve of the bands coming out and playing with each other, also. :) Singer did Brendon's bit of "Don't Wake Me Up," Ian played some snazzy harmonica (I thought of you, [livejournal.com profile] inkjunket ;)), and the Tom Petty cover was particularly lovely! (So many intra-band hugs, awww.)

([livejournal.com profile] olivia_circe and I have agreed, however, that we need to send the younger generation of fans to Beatles boot camp. Maybe Panic would help us out with that.)

Met a bunch more of the internet, also, which was lovely. :) Sorry for being so shy, bbs.

Ugh, I'm exhausted. I can't wait to go to sleep on the bus back to Boston. I will probably have comicky crack to share with you all (finally) tomorrow or so, however.

PS: The reports I'm hearing about last night's Leathermouth show have me totally excited for the Cambridge show now. Which is mildly alarming. AHAHA FRANK, I CAN'T WAIT.
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (air guitar - dorking out)
Ahaha, oh god. Just to follow up on last night: you guys should totally come join the community for our new band, [livejournal.com profile] intensityboat. How can you pass up the chance to become some of the first fans of "the only queer-positive all-female twee-core band in New England?" And if that doesn't convince you, you should really check out the lyrics to "Stage Gay."

(OMFG, Rel and Guin, did you ever sleep last night? That Kerrang interview is my favorite thing in the world ever. I love all of you so much. ♥)
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (drama queen - stage presence)
Today could really have been pretty awful, with my boss out again, my floor almost empty (and silent as the grave, tempting me to play really inappropriate music), and my most obnoxious of coworkers occasionally breathing down my neck. (She is the queen of trivial details.) However! Several excellent reasons why it was not:

-The fact that I sketched out almost the entire second half of the coffee comic, in the morning before my coworker had a chance to start with the hovering. Apparently I should do big projects in halves more often; seeing the completely-finished first bit in front of me while I work is seriously encouraging.

-[livejournal.com profile] chmclfairytales's Baby!Ways picspam. It reduced me to RL giggles (and includes a shot of artist!Gerard that I hadn't seen before; I will be strong and not tape it to the cover of my sketchbook).

-My band. ♥ You can read all about Intensity Boat, our first album (Here, Have Some Poncho), and our upcoming tour right here in our sexy bassist and spokeswoman's journal. I, of course, am the pretentious artiste guitarist (& occasional keyboardist) with not one but two stage names, and a look vaguely reminiscent of Two Face (without the actual facial scarring). Twee-core is here to stay, sister! I wish it were real, I'd be out of this office-bound life so fast . . . thanks to [livejournal.com profile] olivia_circe and [livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor for enlivening my afternoon. Did someone mention liner notes?

Okay, wow, what a day I'm having. Art exhibit, and lots about comics. )

I think I'm going to want to try and write more about comics in the future. (You never know, with me: I have ten thousand projects at once, and I often don't finish any of them. But I feel as though I have some essays, or at least questioning posts, brewing.) I also think I may go back to my recommendation project of last year; I kept mentioning titles to [livejournal.com profile] omnia_mutantur, which she hadn't read, and well. I can be a resource, and would like to be!

This post . . . is probably going to be largely crossposted to my RL journal. I'm posting here, though, because this journal is where I live lately: I've been feeling more at home with fandom (for the most part) than with my scattered collective of RL friends and acquaintances. (Not to malign those of you who read here as well! I love you all. And part of the reason you're here is that . . . I feel like I can talk about more things in front of you. I censor myself so much more over there.)

So I was wondering!

[Poll #1230176]

There's no guarantee that I'll do any or all of these things, and if I do, I have no idea what the frequency will be. But most such posts will be locked, particularly if they include my original art or link to any of my RL-oriented internet accounts. I don't want to spam anyone who doesn't want to see this stuff, and I know many of us don't know each other well. :)

I should probably go to the grocery store now, but I think I'm going to go watch that Dark Horse interview from SDCC, and then curl up with some movie and draw.
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (all kinds of random - yesterday you were)
My friendslist is really hopping now! I want to respond to all the intro posts and stuff, but it is late and I think I'm getting sick, so I should really sleep. Just wanted to say that ILU all already.

My artbunny list is already a mile long, and I'm going to get distracted by Avatar in a couple of days, but . . . someone mentioned Gerard and Lyn-Z dressed in each others' stage clothes the other day, and um. *_* That is a really good idea. I might have to do multiple shots of Lyn-Z, though . . . at least the Black Parade outfit & the iconic Revenge-era black suit/red tie.
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (fancy seeing you here - make an entrance)
Oddly enough, I was just thinking this morning that I should do some kind of "introduction to me" sticky post. I've been making new friends in bandom, after all.

The trouble is, I really have no idea what to put in it. There was a meme floating around awhile ago, I suppose I could use that? I don't know, suggestions would be nifty. If you feel so inclined. :)
