Hey, so, I'm home. My laptop's still squirreled away in a drawer at the office, but one of my roomies was nice enough to lend me his.

The trip was pretty fabulous, and I'll have photos and stories later if everyone wants. I have to catch up on holiday exchange comments (and responses), various posted things, ninety kajillion [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic, etc . . . and work is likely to descend into madness almost immediately (I'm back tomorrow). So I should probably go to bed, but first!

Holiday exchanges were lovely this year, though I was sad to be away for much of the posting & anonymity. Now that the reveals are all done, however, I figured I'd share.

For [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange, the holidays with Newt and Anathema. )

For [livejournal.com profile] yuletart, Pete goes down on his knees for Patrick. )

For [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, I wrote a little story based on the comic series Hopeless Savages, which is far and away the most obscure fandom I've tried yet. any taste that you feel is right describes a day in which young Twitch Strummer Hopeless-Savage feels a little off-balance, but the usual familial antics help to put things right. I'm a little shaky on this one, it feels like . . . it could have been longer? Or possibly just worked better as a comic. Prose is kind of awkward and difficult for me these days. Need to work on that.

I also received some lovely gifts. :) From [livejournal.com profile] mandyvonblandy, a cute little Good Omens comic in which Crowley's Christmas card upsets Aziraphale's sense of propriety. From [livejournal.com profile] derawr, a classic (flying) moonlight kiss, starring Karolina & Nico from Runaways. And from [livejournal.com profile] hikaru, Nothing Is Innocent Now, a sensual coda to Sarah Waters' Fingersmith. Much appreciated. ♥

I've been trying not to crash for hours, but I really should go do that already. I hope you guys enjoy the art. Happy New Year, I missed you all!

I have received my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide assignment! I think this is the first time that I've been matched with a request that includes two of my offered fandoms . . . I don't know which one I want to write! I'm not sure I have time to write both, though that could be really fun. Maybe a stocking stuffer for one. Hmmm.

Anyway!

Dear Yule Goat! )

One further note: I'm going abroad for the holidays this year. I'm leaving the country for France on December 21st, and won't be returning home (via London) until January 5. I have no idea how much internet access I may have along the way, which means that for the first time in years, I may not be able to begin Christmas morning by reading my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide gift. I'm not sure when I'll be able to express my appreciation. Please don't think I'm ignoring you or don't love my gift! I promise to comment first chance I get. :)

As of right now, my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide nominations are:

-Blue Monday
-Castle Waiting
-Fingersmith (book or movie)
-Hopeless Savages
-Penelope (movie)
-Strangers in Paradise

I'm excited that people had already nominated The Middleman (not that this was surprising), Dykes to Watch Out For, and RPF - Nautical (this was a bit surprising, so yay), so that I could get some of my random indie comics in there this year. I wonder if anyone will actually request them. *g* I need to ponder my ability to write dialect (not to mention handle Zero's made-up words) before I commit to offering Hopeless Savages, but there really should be fic. That series needs so much love.

Now I have to go try and catch up on recorded lectures for my class. /o\ It occurs to me that I might not die, this holiday season, if I can get an extension . . . but it would be hard to ask for one right now, being completely behind and generally not even capable of working out a topic just yet. Why did I miss school again?

And the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide spam begins! *g* I will try to keep it to a minimum this year, though, as the composition of my flist has changed so much. But!

I've forgotten my annual exhortation: flist, you should totally sign up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. It is pretty much my very favorite thing in fandom ever. If you've been living under a fannish rock for the last few years, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is a holiday fanfiction exchange that focuses on "rare" fandoms, which means all the random awesome books and comics and inexplicably ignored tv shows and seriously slashable movies you've always wanted to read fic for. ♥ In the past, participants have proven to be some of the most pleasant, cooperative, enthusiastic fans I've ever come across. Cannot recommend it enough.

Last year, [livejournal.com profile] marycrawford posted on Yuletide For Newbies, which has useful links to the FAQ and such. I'm also fond of [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn's How Not To Ruin Yuletide, which will hopefully be available again later on.

Anyway, it looks like I need to rethink my nomination list, since it looks like Dykes To Watch Out For and Nautical RPF (pirate femslash, whee) are already taken care of. Hrm.

So far, this work week has been completely maddening. I only took two days off last week; that should not have been enough time for everything to go to hell in a handbasket! Argh.

Fortunately, there is Gerard Way, whose hair is giving me flashbacks to my early days of comic readership. Also, you know, HIS FACE. I cannot deal with it.

In other fabulous news, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fandom nominations are finally open! :D: So excited, so very panicked. (Seriously, if the holidays do not kill me this year, it's going to be pretty miraculous. Three exchanges and maybe a trip to Europe and probably having to write my research paper a month early--right when the exchanges are due! What am I doing oh god.)

I'm waffling a bit on my noms this year. ) I guess I'll hold off for a little while and ponder.

While I'm pondering, I suppose I should get back to work. There is much to do . . . plus unexpected fire drills!

I made some new friends this weekend, and they? Have a cat named D'Argo. ♥ I haven't watched any Farscape in ages.

Holiday exchange wackiness all around! [livejournal.com profile] yuletart sign-ups are live, OMG. (If you're at all curious about what I requested/offered, the comments are public.) I am very glad that they moved the deadline earlier this year. I kind of ran out of steam by the time I got to it last year, which was a shame, because I kind of think it's the best idea ever. MULTIFANDOM FANART EXCHANGE, YOU GUYS. Seriously. :DDD

Also, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide brainstorming has been going on over here! I have some preliminary thoughts: )

I just found out that my final paper is due about three days after I return from Europe (assuming that works out). Which means I'd better finish it before Christmas. Ahaha oh god, this year. That's what decided me on the Avatar slash exchange (maybe if there's another one later, I really want to, but).

All this fuss, and it's the first of October. I haven't got my costume together yet! /o\ Need to go shopping.

And, randomly: this is seriously bizarre. (Not at all the same thing, but it reminds me of that hilarious "Grayson" trailer that used to be on youtube. I wonder if that's still around.)
