Stil so ridiculously busy, at work and out of it. At this rate I will probably be reading Staring Through The Demons in January. :( Well, I'm likely to need it at that point (admissions hell and all).

My [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic is moving forward, thank goodness, though I kind of took a break tonight to clean our filthy living room. (Much better.) Also in exciting holiday news, [livejournal.com profile] yuletart started posting today! FAVORITE. :DDDD Highlights so far include this amusing seasonal Buffy piece and Labyrinth fanart that BLOWS ME AWAY. Also there's a very pretty rendering of movie-verse Tony Stark and some cute frolicking Pokemon . . . and eighty-eight pieces of multifandom fanart left to go. Hot damn.

Flist, I don't know those of you who are Avatar fans have heard about the movie casting controversy? The four major roles in the film--Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko--have apparently been given to unknown white actors (one of whom is a teen pop musician I've never heard of). If you think there's something deeply, painfully wrong about all this . . . well, I couldn't agree more. I wish I had time for eloquence right now. [livejournal.com profile] glockgal has posted profusely on the topic recently (I can't even pick which post to link to). There is also a letter-writing campaign protesting the whitewashing, to be found here: [livejournal.com profile] aang_aint_white. I definitely plan to join in.

Hrm. I should go sleep so I'm alert enough to answer applicant questions and jot down bits of fic all day tomorrow. At least I seem to have secured a place to sleep during those four nights in London.

I have received my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart assignment! :D It will probably be something of a challenge, but I'm also quite excited about it (naturally).

If my own assigned artist wanders by here . . . I think I probably gave you more prompting than you really need already, so I'm not gonna write out anything long. Just: have fun with it! Please! Feel free to poke through my journal if you want to (there's some squee around for various of my fandoms, some more than others), but there is also no need. I can't wait to see what you come up with, and thank you so much in advance. ♥

So that's two out of three assignments (and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide's won't arrive for a couple of weeks yet). I went through my new daily planner (had to get one for work; a good suggestion, I used the hell out of these things in school), marking off "x weeks until y deadline" at the top of every Monday through mid-December. It's going to be a stimulating season, to say the least.

Actually, I think I may be mostly skipping Halloween this year. Sadness, it's true, but I'm oddly okay with the idea . . . much as it's one of my favorite holidays, I didn't really have any brilliant ideas this year, and none of my friends seem to be having their own parties. And I have so much to do, with visitors this weekend and all last week, I could probably use some time to breathe and get a few things done.

My dad sent me this customizable video that's going around; it's a fake future news video about McCain winning the election thanks to one lazy non-voter, [insert your name here]. Dad. >:( I guess he thought it was clever, because he can't have imagined there's any chance I won't vote. I just emailed him and my mother yesterday with that article about disenfranchisement from Rolling Stone.

Life continues to distract me away from fandom lately! I've been lingering around the edges, so I've caught all the exciting Fall Out Boy material (oh fandom, where is all the Pete/Patrick/Ashlee? ♥), but between the presidential debates and family/[livejournal.com profile] penguinkye visits, distracting reading material (Perdido Street Station and a whole lot of blog coverage of the Minx imprint cancellation), and creating fictional band merch, I've been pretty gone. But!

There are nearly eighty sign-ups at [livejournal.com profile] yuletart right now, and we have a week to go. That is amazing. :D We seem to be skewing pretty heavily towards anime fandoms, which really isn't all that surprising, but there's a fair amount of variety in there. And it looks like we're practically guaranteed some Avatar art, whee. (Conversation over in [livejournal.com profile] glockgal's journal has me pondering the ending of the show again. Also pairings, so many pairings!)

Randomly (and belatedly), I'm getting kind of excited about Razia's Shadow. I hadn't really heard of Forgive Durden before (I'm thinking I should check out some of their older music?), but I love concept albums and musicals, and this one sounds intriguing. Also, anything that features Greta . . . (You can hear one whole preview track here, briefly featuring Brendon. Click on "Forgive Durden - The Exit," under "Exclusive Streams.")

Am feeling strangely torn between my love of October and my highly unusual impatience for November, though if the election goes the way I don't want, I might regret the latter. (At least I'll have good comics and music to console me.) Meanwhile, I have a [livejournal.com profile] sae starting on Friday! Comics and holiday-times will abound (and I'll probably be pretty scarce for awhile). :D

I made some new friends this weekend, and they? Have a cat named D'Argo. ♥ I haven't watched any Farscape in ages.

Holiday exchange wackiness all around! [livejournal.com profile] yuletart sign-ups are live, OMG. (If you're at all curious about what I requested/offered, the comments are public.) I am very glad that they moved the deadline earlier this year. I kind of ran out of steam by the time I got to it last year, which was a shame, because I kind of think it's the best idea ever. MULTIFANDOM FANART EXCHANGE, YOU GUYS. Seriously. :DDD

Also, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide brainstorming has been going on over here! I have some preliminary thoughts: )

I just found out that my final paper is due about three days after I return from Europe (assuming that works out). Which means I'd better finish it before Christmas. Ahaha oh god, this year. That's what decided me on the Avatar slash exchange (maybe if there's another one later, I really want to, but).

All this fuss, and it's the first of October. I haven't got my costume together yet! /o\ Need to go shopping.

And, randomly: this is seriously bizarre. (Not at all the same thing, but it reminds me of that hilarious "Grayson" trailer that used to be on youtube. I wonder if that's still around.)

I've been seriously cranky a whole lot lately, and I'd just as soon spare you guys that. However! It being September, some of the holiday fests are starting to put out announcements. (Already! Four ridiculous months of excitement, give or take.) That cheers me right up. I love drawing stuff for people. :)

I'd imagine that most of the Good Omens fans on my flist have already heard of [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange (a fic and art exchange, it's fabulous), which is in its fourth year now. (Last year I did a two-page comic! No idea how I'm going to top that, meep.) However. I have a few more fanartists (hi fanartists, hi!) around now than I had a year ago, so I have to try and tempt you into [livejournal.com profile] yuletart.

[livejournal.com profile] yuletart is a multifandom fanart exchange. ("Fanart" here means things like drawings, paintings, various wacky crafts . . . but not manips or icons.) It's modeled after [livejournal.com profile] yuletide, a bit, except that it takes any fandom (except Harry Potter, which is not exactly hurting for fanart). Any fandom of any size! From your most obscure book series (or indie comic series, ahem) to your giant fannish behemoths (say, bandom).

So yes! You should totally check it out. Fandom nominations open up for new participants on September 20, and sign-ups start October 1. You are all so talented, bbs; your participation would make the fest that much more amazing. ♥

Must sleep now; Reggie and Leathermouth (and Intensity Boat!) tomorrow. Ohhhhh man.

Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] yuletart has been amazing so far, and after it's over I plan on doing a wrap-up post with some recs, but . . . I need to share this one with you RIGHT NOW.

The fandom's Firefly; the character is Kaylee. But kind of the entire cast as well. It's probably the most creative fanart entry I've ever seen for a challenge, and it fills me with glee.

Right. Back to work now.

Instead of just doing a holiday exchange roundup post, I'm doing one for my whole fannish year. 2007 wasn't terribly productive for me, but what the heck. (Also, this is almost entirely fanart, with just the one piece of fanfiction for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.)

I was going to wait for the [livejournal.com profile] go_exchange reveal, but it's still not up and I'm impatient. Anyway, anyone who is the least bit familiar with my art would recognize my piece in a second.

My fannish year in review: )

Well, that's that. Although, the holiday exchanges aren't over quite yet: [livejournal.com profile] yuletart just started posting today, and new fanart will be going up all month! Check it out, it's sure to be fantastic. I'm already the recipient of a rather lovely gift, and I can't wait to see what else the challenge has in store.

As for this year, I want to do more fanart. (For one thing, I must draw something Avatar-related! Gah!) Unfortunately, I won't have anything new for a bit (maybe a month or so), as I'd like to earn a few paychecks before purchasing a new copy of Photoshop (thank goodness for my dad's academic discount, also).

I'm having a bit of a fresh start this year, what with a new job in a new city. Maybe I'll add to that by making this the first year I write for the New Year's Resolution challenge as well. ;)

Well! [livejournal.com profile] yuletart has finally started: several new pieces of fanart posted every day this month. You guys should check it out . . . I'm rather excited. :)

I finished my piece just under the wire, again, but now of course I'm too impatient to wait. I can't post it anywhere publicly 'til after the reveal, but I thought I'd go ahead and share it with a few friends now. If you'd rather, of course, you could just wait 'til it's officially posted.

one last bit of holiday fanart )

[ETA:] Public now!

Eeee, I just received my [livejournal.com profile] yuletart assignment! I'm so excited! This is going to be totally awesome, I'm so glad I signed up.

So I think this one merits a Dear Santa letter: )

[ETA:]Okay, so browsing around, I'm noticing that people are putting in details about their fandoms. Maybe I should do that.

This second LJ-cut? Totally voluntary. Please don't click unless you actively want more detail. I'm not going to dictate specific pictures--I'd rather see what you feel inspired to draw--but I'll throw around a few general suggestions/things I like. Briefly. :)

Seriously, it's totally fine if you don't click this! )

I'm all signed up for both [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and [livejournal.com profile] yuletart! So excited!

I went with the all-comics option for Yuletide (rereading the last few issues of SiP convinced me), and for Yuletart I asked for . . . even more comics, plus a couple of other things. Can't wait to see my assignments! Also, my goal is to pinch-hit at least one story for Yuletide this year. (I couldn't offer that for Yuletart, as I am a very slow artist, and could not trust myself to get it done.

And, one more time: flist, you should sign up! For one or both! The sign-up deadline for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is Thursday, October 18 (by 11:59 pm). For [livejournal.com profile] yuletart, it's October 31. And remember, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide is massively multifandom and incorporates, slash, het and gen. It really has something for everybody. They've recently revamped the FAQ, so check it out. ^^ And yes, I will stop bugging you about it now . . .

I had to do my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide sign-up three times. *laughs* That has never happened before! I kept making mistakes . . . it was very silly. But it's all set now. I offered seventeen fandoms this year, which is the most yet, I think. :)

One of my fandoms was on the top of the "needy" list, but it's off already! Man, people in this challenge are so damn awesome.

My mother has taken my grandmother to church, so I'm sitting here waiting for the newest episode of SgA to download . . . there's been some glee on my flist, but I'm a bit nervous about it. (The Elizabeth thing? Really pisses me off, even though I like Sam Carter.) Though I've read over the episode descriptions, and there are more than a couple episodes to look forward to. ^^

I should really post about Heroes at some point . . . some squee, and some feminist griping. Not much to say about Bionic Woman yet, though I'm enjoying it enough to keep watching. I really want Sarah Corvis to stick around and keep on being slashy with Jamie, who could stand to grow a bit more personality.

Avatar, of course, is completely awesome. I'm sad that it didn't qualify for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year (though I can certainly see why).

Well, I have seven "new" issues of "Desert Peach" to read now. (Oh my god so much squee.)
reflectedeve: Pearl from Steven Universe, in a tux and top hat (enticing - seductive - hedonistic)
Argh. I missed Heroes last night, because I was busy helping my mother try and clean the entire house. My grandmother's visiting (they should really be here soon, hum). And NBC's online player refuses to function for me. *resists clicking the spoilers*

So . . . a few more yule-ish things, anyone? [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine posted some really excellent thoughts on writing prompts, which I find very helpful, and recommend. [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn has more here, which I have not read yet. Also worth reading is her last-year's post, How Not To Ruin Yuletide.

Also, check this out: [livejournal.com profile] yuletart! It's like Yuletide for artists! It's new and very small, but such a worthy cause, I'm definitely going to give it a try . . . I know a couple of people out there who really ought to as well. *prod*

Meanwhile, I've decided to keep From Eroica With Love. It's my baby, and dude, Yuletide is the season for laying aside your stickler-ness and just enjoying the incredible generosity of other fen. It's not as though I don't enjoy reading most Eroicafic, even when it's not my interpretation. I'll just request that Klaus not be written as anything even vaguely resembling a fluffy puppy, and things should be better than fine. :)

So now I've narrowed it down a bit . . . I think I'm going to drop either Strangers in Paradise or the Nautical RPF. I could request all comic fandoms this year! Or would that be boring? Pirates in drag . . . kickass amazon bodyguard and bubbly adorable girl with hidden depths . . . argh. Well, I have a few more days.
